Your right and they probably just want it because they don't know anything. They go with the crowd. It's sad but people will be people! Funny sometimes too! I kinda chuckle a bit when i hear stupid remarks.

Well most people don’t know and/or care as much about piercings (or maybe that specific piercing) as you do. People know a gauge has a lot to do with it, and cant think of another use for the word. So the words have become synonymous in popular culture. i doubt this actuly confuses you, infact im sure most ppl wud get it. it may be technically incorrect, but thats the nature of slang, it mostly comes from ignorance or laziness.

tbh, this sounds like an eliteist 'everyone is ignorant about my specialist subject' rant, rather than a genuine pet peeve. a bit like those snobby ppl who work in record shops who snort at you for not knowing about some obscure mexican techno duo. if you like, il provide the answer you were probably hoping for 'yeah i no, im also a piercing professional, and this really annoys me, i also hate it whenm people think your septum id the bit between your nostrils, when infact blah blah blah' OR 'wow, i never realised that, ive been calling it a gauge all my life, im so humiliated and upset. thank you for enlightening me, o master'

I would rather hear someone say "it took me 3 years to gauge my piercings to 1/2" " than to hear someone say "I stretched my piercings to 1" in the past month"

Who cares. it's only a word.

who cares? obviously not everybody is well versed in terminology, especially since so many people say the wrong thing, it is just universally accepted as correct by those who don't know better. maybe you should explain the difference since they don't know.
i guess i understand, it bothers me when people say "tatted up" that sounds so dumb but whatever. i don't know ANY people who have serious tattoos who say "tatted". whatever.

they dont want to be educated, just in with the crowd. its quite annoying. its too bad the ones who take the time to educate ourselves on the terminology and care, etc., have to be grouped in with the ones that don't.

Yeah, they don't know what they are after. Try explaining the difference to them and find out what they are after versus what you took it is.
