The knights cross was an award given for bravery before the enemy and extreme merits in commanding troops. It was the third of four levels for the Iron cross award.

it was not a specific unit. the Knights cross was a medal for a brave soldiers. for example, every pilot with 100 kills was awarded with the Knights cross.
it was higher than the Iron cross, and it had several upgrades:
KC with oakleaves
KC with swords and oakleaves
KC with brilliants - Rudel was awarded with this highest German medal

Sal*UK has found the link that answers most of your question and gets my vote for best answer. There was no such unit. As there were no Medal of Honor units in the US Army.
