nissan was advertising leases on brand new versa's for only $60 a month. so i am considering getting a versa since it is the only car in my price range. would you recommend the versa? any kind of complaints. i test drove a 2008 versa sedan yesterday and it was much smoother than my car (i have a 2004 kia rio). and i felt higher up which is nice when you are only 5'1". so would you recommend a versa (i would probably get a 2007 hatchback) or should i save money and keep my 2004 kia rio?

ps. i drive several times a year to california (which on average is 300 miles one way). and i live in las vegas so can it handle the drives and the heat? can it go uphill in 115* heat and not overheat (i always see cars parked on the side of the road due to problems overheating). and is it safe to continually make that long drive by myself?

Keep your car and when it becomes necessary go ahead and upgrade to another Kia, maybe a Spectra 5. Use the Kia loyalty and all the other factory rebates. I have an '04 Optima and have driven from Augusta, GA to Vegas many times and it's been great. Leases are OK, if you drive very little and I think you probably drive a lot. Oh yeah, I think the place you're talking about is Baker grade, if you leave Baker going towards Vegas there are a lot of cars that can't handle the stress going uphill! With the Versa, look at the fine print, you may have to put a large dollar amount down and pay all sorts of dealer fees and other expenses. I'd stay with Kia if I were you- unless you just want to spend your money.

Depending on how much you will put down up front (usually like $2k), $60 a month sounds like a very good deal. That only adds up to $2160 over 36 months. I would probably pay slightly more a month to get some features if they aren't on the advertised model. I would add power windows, keyless entry and cruise control.

The way cars depreciate, spending probably less than $5k in three years sounds pretty fair to me.

As for your car -- the Versa has more power than your Rio, but I read some reviews where it isn't getting the mpg that Nissan is claiming. The rest is going to be how well you like the features, styling and comfort compared to your Kia.

If possable own a car leasing only gets you limited time milage. I think Nissan Versa or better yet the Sentra will serve you nicely. Sentra at turn in time will probably bring more money.
