You know how sometimes your teeth feel like they shifted out of place and you try to wiggle them to see if it will move back to what your mouth was accustomed to? Did your tooth actually shift to a different position, or is something else occuring that makes it feel like that. Or, do we just imagine it.

The teeth don't attach directly to the bone, instead the tooth is surrounded by a layer of fleshy tissue called the "Periodontum." The periodontum contains hundreds of small, stretchy ligaments, which actually attach the tooth to the bone.

These ligaments allow the teeth to "wiggle" slightly, maybe around 2/3 of a millimeter. (Note: an unusual amount of movement might mean you have gum disease, or a gum infection; a good time to see a dentist.)

Additionally, teeth are able to slowly move, shift position, and reorient themselves over time. Unequal pressure on one side of a tooth or another, causes bone in that area to slowly break down, and new bone to fill in on the opposite side. Braces and retainer make use of this fact, in order to straighten teeth, and correct bite problems.

This website is rich and informative on all aspects of gum graft surgery, dental implants, wisdom teeth, costs, cheap or expensive, orthognathic surgery, post operative care, medications, pain control and the like. I hope you find some help here.

WHAT MOVES AROUND IN YOUR HEAD IS THE BONE THAT HOLDS THE TEETH IN PLACE. THIS IS VERY SLOW AND GRADUAL WITH BRACES.
THIS IS WHAT MAKES BRACES WORK.TEETH HAVE A SMALL NATURAL MOBILITY, BUT THIS IS DIFFICULT TO DETECT WHEN ALL IS HEALTHY.
