This is a bit of a long one...
About 2 years ago I pierced my own navel ( bad idea I know now!) anyway, it got infected, but healed and I had it done 'professionaly'. They pierced it to shallow, and it got infected. I've left it out about a year now it was still quite red and hard as there was scar tissue, and last week i noticed that the hole was still basically there so pushed a navel bar through with no problems.
It's been 5 days now, it doesn't hurt at all and theres no puss or anything, but it is quite red. Only between the two holes, but it is redder than before. Is this a sign it's going to get infected again?
What should I do to try and stop it messing up again?!!

What a foolhardy act! Having committed the blunder in the first place, leave it alone and use an anticeptic solution to clean it every day! Don't wear any ring or something there!

Clean it as if it were a brand new piercing. Light antibacterial soap at least two times a day running soap over the jewelry and rotating the jewelry with soap on it. Rinse it well. Place a tiny amount of antibacterial ointment on your index finger, rub it between your index finger and thumb, then run the ointment along the piercing while rotating it. Its red because it's irritated. Have you ever considered that you may be allergic to the jewelry you are using? I'd suggest this one last try. If it gets infected again, scrap the whole navel piercing idea. You probably have alot of scar tissue there and the more you mess with it the harder it gets to get a decent piercing. If a navel piercing is something you can't live without, try piercing the opposite side, like the side towards your pants. Good Luck!

Naval piercing stay red for a while when they are new, even if you haven't had a ring in for a while. Do you use salt water? Put some water in a cup and mix in some salt (not too much though) and then with the cup right side up, put your belly button on it (with the ring in). Once you make sure it won't leak if you sit up, you can just sit in a chair with it there. Keep it on for about ten minutes, do this once a day for about three weeks. I also suggest that you don't take the ring out for about three months so your hole doesn't close, or get irritated from re-insertion.

Mind what kind of metal your ring is. I suggest gold, it may be expesive but it wont irritate your skin as much.

Best of luck.

Now that the bar is through, you don't want to take it back out immediately. This is because if there is any infection, the hole would seal itself with the infection inside. I would suggest using hydrogen peroxide followed by a saline rinse twice a day (h2ocean is a good, sterile saline solution). Also, you should consult either a doctor or trained piercing professional.

Ask your local body piecing shop and they will just take a look no charge and can sell you sprays two pound fifty each. A friend had a bar in which she was allergic to so she went to the body piercing shop who gave her good advice also she bought these sprays and had no trouble after.Another thought did you go swimming after it was done as chlorine in the swimming baths will infect it but salt water from the sea harms it so check it out please.

Clean it with some surgical spirit three times a day, keep it clean , but I would say if it is not better by Weds, go and see your doctor. It might be the bar that gives you the reaction, I know I can only wear gold in my piercings, so check that too.

well what I would do is not put in the ring anymore. The same thing happened to my ear lobe. Maybe ur belly area is really sensative, like my ear was. If it starts to scab or something take it out and maybe even see a skin doctor. Maybe ur allergic. I dont know. Sorry if this wasn't any help :-(

Take it out and forget it! Why are you so intent on mangling your navel and getting more infections?
Go get a Monroe or a nose piercing by a professional instead!

Take it back to where you had it done. If they are any good they will be able to offer advice.

go see your doctor, they will surely have some ointment that you could put on it, and try aloe vera too.
