No family connections in the US. Any chance of joining?

If you are a legal resident alien living in the US, you can join the US military. If you don't live in the US, you can't join the US military.

Not much. You need a Green Card, Permanent Residence or a Citizenship to join, or be a citizen of a country that has a Compact of Free Association with the United States (Palau, Micronesia, Marshall Islands.... meh).

To get a Green Card, you'll have to apply for it... but be warned, the list is very long and quite selective. To be guaranteed one, one of your close relatives needs to be a citizen, so...

Why not? After all, the first members of the US military were former British subjects :) As I understand it, you're cool as long as you have a green card.

I have a couple of Irish friends in the US Army and Coastguard, it helped that two of them's Mother was born in the U.S.A., another had to have an Irish Aunt living in the U.S.A for many years in America, stand has his sponser. (he is in the Marine Corps has a Tank Driver.)

Absolutely! We had an Irish citizen in our squadron in the USMC. I can't even tell you how many Mexican nationals were in there. Lots.

Sure why not? My dad joined the RAF in WWII, so why can't you join the US Military. We are allies.

a friend of mine (Canadian) was in the states for a sports competition, marine recruiter saw him and tried to recruit him. My friend said he wasn't an American, the recruiter said he could take care of it.

You would have to enter and be declared a resident alien in the U.S. first.
