I went to get my PS3 exchanged because of overheating problems but now i don't really even want it. I never opened it and I don't think bestbuy will let my return it for store credits because it is over 2 1/2 months old. I don't want to keep it because it will just collect dust and i need the money for a x-box 360. What do u think i should do? I even have the 2 year warranty on it.

How would you know that your PS3 is overheating if you said you never opened it?

The PS3 doesn't have as big of an overheating problem as the 360. The PS3 only has a .02% failure rate. That includes overheating, hardware malfunction, etc. So, the chance of your PS3 overheating is close to none. The 360 has a 1/3 chance of overheating. That's 1 out of every 3 360.

So, you're basically trading in a system that has less than a .02% chance of overheating for a system that has a 1/3 chance of overheating. Makes sense to me.

You can't return it to Best Buy, so your only option is to sell it, and probably take a loss.

If you're having overheating problems, then it's faulty.
Take it back and exchange it for a 360 (if you must), that's what a warranty is for.
Not sure why you'd expect the 360 to have less of an overheating problem though, considering its history re rrod.

Overheating in the box, that you never had opened or you just red somewhere, that PS3 overheats? In this case - it's a misunderstanding - Xbox 360 is the one to get red ring of death overheating problem. Anyway, it's your choice, but PS3 is much better, than Gates' spastic creation.

Find a place to sell it if you cant put it up on ebay or see if there is any shops which will swap it with you for an x-box 360.
