My mum is well sick. We recently moved to the U.S. for proper medical treatment of her lung cancer. The only relatives I have alive besides my mum is my 12 year old sister, my neice (who's parents have given her up so she now lives with her grandmother). Would there be anyone willing to adopt me and my sister, or would we have to be fostered for a couple of years?
Also, my neice, her grandmother is not related to me, she is her step dad's mum and will probably die a good 2 years

One of my other worries, is my family doesn't have much money; it is being spent o tretment and home docto visits.
I'm not sure if I financially have the strength to raise my sister

i'm not sure...
this is very sad, dear, and if i could help you all i would...
my grand parents raised me, they died when i was 13, and i raised my sister in a home my parents had bought...back then, welfare looked the other way, and by the time my parents were back on the scene, my sister and i were grown...
you are 16, and perhaps you can find someone to help keep you and your sister together... call a local attorney and ask them
good luck!!!

Well first and foremost.. this is not a good idea to post things of this manner.. You never know who may contact you and seem like a good person and only ruin your life.. don't put the lives of you and your sister at risk like this.
Now to answer the question, if your mom passes away, and the court has no next of kin, you and your sister will become wards of the state. You will be placed in the foster care system with the possibility of going to a really good family. on the flip side of things, you can ask your mom to have you emancipated before she passes on and write a will to have you take care of your sister. You will have to get a job and a place to live, but you must be sure you are mature enough to take on the responsibility. There is more to discuss on this issue you can add me to your messenger if you have one or email me at cinnamon6121@yahoo.com and I can give you all of your possible options. Good Luck! I will pray for you and your family.

and where is your dad? I would worry about being put into foster care as older children often take the longest to be placed. When placed into the foster care system, you are outed when you are 18 or out of school. Your sister would have a lot longer stay, unless you could provide for yourself and her once you reach 18, then there is hope you would be able to take care of her.

You may be able to legally emancipate yourself and become an adult
