How can people say that they pray to a dead person, when the bible tells us that the dead don't know nothing. Because they are dead.

The only thing as Catholics that we believe about Mary is that she is the Mother of Jesus, and that she was taken up into heaven. We pray to her not as a deity, but as a part of the entire Church Community. We believe that those that have gone and that are in heaven are still apart of the Christian community, and they can talk to God. We believe in praying to God directly, but also praying to the Saints for us.
Let me just put it this way, you can go your entire life not praying to a saint (Mary or other) and be a Good Catholic and Go to heaven.
God Bless

I do not believe that there is anything heretical in believing that the Blessed Virgin Mary is just as holy as the next saint.
Catholics share the belief in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal, and Methodist Churches.
The Communion of Saints is the belief where all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When you die and go to heaven, you do not leave this family.
Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints, you, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II.
As part of this family, you may ask your family and friends living here on earth to pray for you. Or, you may also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, or your deceased grandmother living in heaven to pray for you.
Prayer to saints in heaven is simple communication, not worship.
Asking others to pray for you whether your loved ones on Earth or your loved ones in heaven is always optional.
For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 946 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt3art9p5.htm#946

Which definition of admonish are you using in this question?
Admonish- to indicate duties or obligations to b : to express warning or disapproval to especially in a gentle, earnest, or solicitous manner
2 : to give friendly earnest advice or encouragement to
Because I do not know any Catholics that do any of the above. I think Catholics hold Mary in high esteem because she was the mother of Jesus. Does your Bible say differently?

Look at it this way. Whatever else he was, Jesus was Jewish. A good Jewish boy. You can't go wrong with a good Jewish boy by being nice to his mother.
We love His mother. By her obedience to God she gave us Christ and He gave us salvation.
Through the Beloved Apostle (John), He gave her to us as our mother while he was dying on the cross.
Would you have us toss her aside as though Christ's gift of her was of no account.
Trust me. You DON'T get brownie points by refusing God's gifts!

The only one you have to pray to is God himself. Why go through Mary when God is right there.
