Yes if the dog fits your lifestyle.
i have a blue heeler mix and she is great with the kids.
They need to be challenged and keeped busy, they are working dogs.
i go on walks, jogs, to the park, i trained with her everyday(obedience),i play with her a lot and there are my kids that keep her busy, i try teaching her to search for the kids when they are hiding and she loves it and is getting better at it.She loves to play catch too...its just to funny.I also take her on play dates.she does keep herself busy to,she loves sunbathing, chasing birds, playing with her toys, chewing bones(and sometimes things i`m not to happy about)..lol
she is the best family dog for us.
Did i mention that she is really protective of us or her house.
I got her from the shelter she is a mix she is so cute she looks exactly like a blue heeler just smaller(she is mixed with something smaller).
i`m very proud of her i put lots of efford in her and she is a wonderful well behaved and balanced dog.

Hi Katie, If she is in season and has mated with the Blue Heeler X Kelpie then she will die, I am sorry but that is just the way it is, You need to get her to a vet as soon as possiable for an abotion, It is the only thing that is right by her. You sound like you's real love her so why would you put her through trying to carry the pups? Thy will be to big for her to have naturally and she will need to have a Cesarion and that costs a lot of money around $1000;0 dollars but only a couple of $100 of an abortion which will save her life. A friend of mine had a jack russell and she got out a mated with a Kelpie cross and they never got her the abortion now she is dead, She could not carry the pus they were to heavey and by the time they realized she was trting to have the pups it was to late for the pups and the mum. I know it is really sad but if you love her as much as you say you will do what is best by her and the pups and that is an abortion. Lets just say they all made it what would happen to the pups when they reached there 8 week mark? they need there vacc, mic & vetcheck that cost a bit of moneyy you know & then what happens if you sell then to some one that they go to a puppy farm or worse still. Just think about it do you want to loose mum and the pups or just the pups and keep mum? she will still be a happy as ever. Just that she will get to live. Look if she was into a dog her own size she would have a 50% chance of having health happy pups and live But she is in pup to a really big dog which means there is on about 1% chance that she will live. the chances ain't great. If i were you i would take her to a vet get the abortion & then if you want her to have a litter of pups put her with a small dog her own size when she comes back in.

Do some research about the breed. Australian Cattle Dogs are working dogs, bred to help out around the farm with hearding Cattle, and other livestock. These dogs need a job. If you don't give them a job, they will create one on their own, and it is usually something owners find undesirable. If they don't have a job of their own, they sometimes start Herding kids around by nipping at their ankles, like they would do to the cattle. But as long as you give your dog a job (fly ball, agility, frisbee etc.) and teach your dog that nipping is not acceptable, you will have a very loyal and loving family companion. Good Luck!

It is absolutely loyal and obedient to its master, but it is something of a one-person dog. They are sometimes suspicious of people and dogs they don't know. It can be very dog aggressive, for its dominance level is high. Not good with children except for family members it has known since puppyhood. Some tend to nip at people's heels in an attempt to herd them. If you are buying a pet, avoid strictly working lines, as these dogs may be too active and intense for home life. Australian Cattle Dogs are very easy to train.

In general, ACDs are not recommended for homes with small children. They are very aggressive herders, and could herd your children with lots of teeth, as that is what they were bred to do. They can be difficult to train, and if you are not in control all the time, can take over your home. They are extremely protective of the home, so they make great watchdogs.
If you have children, I would suggest a very reputable breeder who can get you a puppy with behavior guarantees.
Once again, this breed can be dangerous to children, so please don't buy one at a pet store or from a byb. You could end up with loads of trouble!

If you can give them *lots* of mental and physical exercise every day, and you don't mind being herded, then yes.
