Another poster's question inspired this one. Where is it? What's on it? What's your religion?

.............................

(My religion is a blend of Christianity, Spiritualism, and Mysticism with strong roots in Catholicism. So I have a picture of the Sacred heart surrounded by candles with different saints on them, rose incense, sandlwood, and a light crystal and a dark crystal side by side.)

Ah, I forgot the last detail. It's set up on the hearth of my fireplace.

I do have an alter. I actually have 2 in my home. One is located in my bedroom. I am an eclectic Pagan and it holds, incense, candles, Semi precious gems for crystal work, a bowl of salt, a chalice, an athame and several other pieces for workings. I also have an alter in my dining area, it is generally filled with symbols of the season. Now is the fall harvest and it has gourds and fallen leaves on it.

Yes i do have an altar. It currently is in my bedroom. it has symbols of the gods and goddess, incense, holy water, and different oils and candles for different purposes. Not to mention my sea salt, and an assortment of herbs and herbal remedies either handed down by fellow believers or researched in a variety of literature.
My religion is actually a blend of many different pagan, earth based religions. I am considered an eclectic solitaire pagan witch with a strong emphasis on intuitive and natural healing.

It is my way of giving thanks and showing gratitude, as well as a place to meditate and seek answers.

Yes, I do. I'm Pagan. My altar is in our upstairs loft, under a window. I have things on it to honor the four directions (incense for air -east, pine cones and salt for earth-north, sea shells for water-west, and a candle for fire-south). I have a pentacle in the middle on which are crystals. I also have two figures from the Mexican Dia de los Muertos (day of the dead) belief, which represents my deceased loved ones. My athame is there, as well as my wand. And a wooden plat that says "leap and the net will appear" to remind me not to become stagnant. I add and subtract other items from time to time, depending on what is happening in my life, things to focus on, etc.

The body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit. The alter is symbolized within the body as the heart. "Think" with the heart and Love with the mind!

I have several, it just happens ... I arrange things, and voila - an altar.

There are some Buddhist corners in my flat, a Hindu one, several Shamanic ones and some Universal arrangements.

And as you asked: I don't belong to any religion but I trust in the ultimate kindness of the Universe.

Yes. By day it's just a normal nightstand. By night it's my Pagan altar.

Usually have 4-5 candles on it, usually red, blue, green or black.
Pentacles nearby somewhere. And my holy water.

And it's on my WEST wall.

Yes I have several in fact. My son has one also. We are Wiccan (I think you all know that by now, chuckle)

I have one in my bedroom, one in my living room, one in my kitchen, and one I put up for sabbat rituals on my kitchen table the whole family partakes. One in my bathroom, my son has one as well. My coven has another we use at our covenstead for esbat and sabbat rituals.

The one in my bedroom is the one I use the most for daily and nightly devotions, (most call them prayers). On it is two candles, a statue of a girl with birds, which is my rep. of the Goddess, and a man with who is my rep. of the God, some seasonal flowers. A representation of each of the four elements, earth, air, fire and water, and one for spirit. Incense is the air rep.

My altar cloth is one for the season, and for now is of a fall theme but in a couple of weeks will be changed to a Samhain (halloween) theme. My patron Goddess is Hecate the crone as I am in the crone stage of my life.

My living room altar has a statue of my power animal on it, the wolf, and my mythical power animal the dragon. I has pictures of friends, an owl, for wisdom and seasonal flowers. There is only one candle here.

In my kitchen I have a candle to Hestia, on the back of my stove, with a container of cinnamon and a other spices. A statue of a witch eating a cookie. On the other side of the room I have thirteen birds in cages. One or more partakes in circle with me for any given ritual. At each meal we place this candle on the table and give thanks to Hestia for our meal and the gift of it. I thank her daily for her aid in my homemaking skills and ask her guidance in them to make my home a warm and welcoming place for my family.

In my bathroom I have a christmas cactus and it is a plant of peace, and a pale green candle, and patchouli incense. In this room I encourage peace and relaxation.

I had one in my yard, but for some reason it keeps getting destroyed. The neighbors keep stealing the chairs and table. I live in a mobile home park and have no defense against this, my landlord is no help. So I gave up on this one. Now when the weather is good I just sit on my stoop and meditate. Sad isnt it?

In my sons room his altar has a jar of lavendar, and a purple candle. His power animal is the cardnal. His familiar is a cockatiel which lives in the room with him. He is learning our ways and has so far decided to continue doing so. Soon he will undergoe his puberty rights at which time he will decide to continue training in Wicca or decide to try another path. It is his decision to make and I will honor it and aid him in his quest for knowledge...it is our way. It is right for him to make his own decision.

So as you see, I have more then one altar and each has its own purpose. Wiccans are very spiritual people.
