It wouldn't be an altar. It would be more of a prayer and devotion area. An altar is technically for offering the Eucharistic sacrafice, which you will not be doing (unless you're a priest). But, icons, candles, a Bible - these would be nice things.
Here is a nice example:

A real altar must contain a relic. Since those are hard to come by, a shrine might be more suited for your purposes. A shrine can go anywhere in your home, and contain anything as far as sacramentals are concerned.
My night-table has become a sort-of shrine. I have a bible, statuette of Jesus, a vile of Holy Water from Fatima, numerous prayer cards and novenas.
Inside the night-table I have spare Rosary's, Scapular's and Miraculous Medals, mostly because room on the top is scarce.
That's all it takes.
A similar setup would work, and a statue of the Virgin Mary and Rosary would do nicely as well.
The point of it all is to make a small place in your home very conducive to mediation/contemplation/prayer. If your home altar/shrine does that then great!

I think it is wrong for female altar servers, but not just alter servers.Any woman up on the altar or women being Eucharistic minsters. I don't go along with men being Eucharistic minsters either. The rules have been taken way out of context. Also it originally did not come out of Rome. It came from the American Bishop Councils, not the pope. Just like a lot of other things they have changed. Did you know that Eucharistic Minsters are only to be used when there is over 200 people in the church and there is only one priest. Anything under 200 the priest is supposed to do it himself. Now I go to daily mass and when they have Holy Communion they have at least 2 Eucharistic Minsters there and there is only about 25 people. Since when can't a priest handle 25 people, who are receiving Our Lord. I have even seen them, the priest sit down while the Eucharistic Minster gives out communion. This is so wrong and a parishioner has the right to receive from a priest if the priest is on the altar. BTW it is in the bible about women on the altar. St Paul to the Corinthians's and the Old testament also. Very specific rules. You don't take bits and pieces out of the bible so that they suit you. If you believe in it you believe in it totally. I don't know why Jesus wanted only men on the altar. He must have had His reasons but this is what He wanted, not man. Altar boys are for the purpose of grooming these young men so they see what it's like to be a priest. No girl can be a priest so why should they be on the altar. As far as them going into the sisterhood. Look at our convents are there any women in them No. The vocations have dwindled. Only the traditional convents have vocations. There must be a reason for this. Don't you think. But I'm getting of the subject. Our faith has been so watered down that it is terrible. We need to get back to the old traditions and rites we had before all the changes. We have lost too much respect for the Blessed Sacrament, Who is the main stay of our faith. I am not critizing any one who feels differently, This is only how I feel about it. God Bless you.

Jesus said that alters are not to be higher than the floor. If you want truth instead of pride.
The Catholic Church removed the Second Commandment from their bible, as you are showing here. For IT says: Exodus 20:4-6 "You shall not make an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I , the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."
So since you are worshiping your idol of the virgin, not God, what will happen to you when judgment time comes? Think about this! Get an accurate, modern Bible and find what the other removed lines the Catholic church has removed. So you can have them all.

Possibly a votive candle or flowers as an offering. And right about the crucifix, maybe also some holy water and a missal.

Candles of the saints that have meaning to you and anything that brings you a sense of peace and leads you to loving kindness. It should be personal and have special meaning to you.
Let me apologize in advance for any hateful answers you receive.

I guess the Bible means nothing to you, right? so who really are you praying to?
If you want a TRUE altar, it will be of UNHEWN STONES, 12 usually, stacked on top of each other, with NO GRAVEN IMAGES AROUND IT.
Then the first thing you should do is REPENT from listening to the Babylon whore, and return to the truth of scripture.

They have bones or relics of dead so-called saints in a niche under the altar cloth usually... creepy or what? And they think Halloween is creepy...sheesh!
