If they are here to do some serious shopping, they definitely should see Century 21 - huge bargains on excellent quality clothing - it's on Cortlandt Street between Church and Broadway - across the street from the World Trade Center site.

Tell them to go to Macy's and Lord & Taylor - see if there are sales that day. Even if there aren't any, check the clearance racks at the back of the departments - sometimes you can find unsold clothing for 75% off the original price.
Also check Daffy's - across the street from Macy's

The weather in November is starting to get very cold! It's like about 30-50 or if you're lucky, sometimes it gets warmer. Yeah, Jersey Gardens Mall in Elizabeth, NJ is really worth going because they have great sales and in NY, Macy's is a must and the stores around it. Since they're staying in November, they should be there on Black Friday which most of the stores have awesome sales.

I love New York! I would say, at the very least, they have to visit the big NYC department stores and at least see them ... Barneys, Saks, etc... and naturally, FAO Schwartz! There are so many cool shops in Soho and the Village where they can get unique stylish items. One pointer, though ... if they end up on Canal Street and are tempted to buy any of the knock-off handbags, they need to be ready to make their purchase quickly as the police come in and raid every so often. (And, they can negotiate the price with street vendors) They should really watch their cash and be ready to hand over the money while taking the bag as all the transactions happen very quickly.
As for shopping malls in NJ, I'm not overly impressed, but I am from NJ. The mall in Short Hills might be worth visiting. There are some outlets in Jackson, NJ (exit 7 or 7a on the NJ Turnpike) and there are outlets in Woodbury (NY) ... but like any outlets, they're hit or miss. If they plan on visiting Atlantic City, there are some outlets down there as well (Liz Claiborne, Coach, Ralph Lauren). Might not be worth the trip just for the outlets, but if they want to see AC, visit some casinos ,etc., it's definitely worth keeping those outlets in mind.
Hope this helps! I hope they have fun! (And in NYC, the Magnolia Bakery has great cupcakes! -- a bit sweet, but great nonetheless)
