hey im a complete moron when it comes to photoshop so please answer simply

how do i crop a photo? i tried opening it with paint and doing it there but paint wouldnt let me

also ive saved the bit i want as a layer so i want to get rid of the background layer but i dont know how to delete it the usual click and delete button wont work

open the photo shop... use editing from edit menu....select a new page... see if it is maroon too then go to photo shop setting.. select page presentation select the Waite co lour or plane background select apply then OK , open the new page .. bravo you got a blank page

Use the lasso or marquee tool to make the extents of your crop. Then go to the Image menu, and select Crop.

As for layers: You can't delete the Background Layer. You could copy the layer you want to the clipboard, create a New drawing from the File menu, and paste your clipboard's contents to the new drawing.

Otherwise, you could clear the background layer, then merge all layers together.

If I'm understanding the question correctly...

You've saved the bit you want into it's own separate layer. Working in the layers palette, simply drag and drop the original layer into the trash can.
