Ok, if you do not want to take it to a vet, you need to remove the blood feather asap. Birds do not have a lot of bleed to spare. Get a pair of needle nose pliers, you will need help since someone must hold your bird. You need to get a firm grip on that blood feather and then pull it straight out very fast and quick. Your baby will yell but only for a second and the bleeding will stop once the feather is pulled. The small hole where the feather was will seal itself very quickly.

You need something to stop the bleeding. It's a blood feather and he can bleed to death. In a pinch, you can use a small amount of flour applied directly to the shaft of the feather. Sorta pack it in and around just a lil BIT. Otherwise, you'll need to apply direct pressure to it for five minutes. Most important, stay calm. If you freak, he's going to freak as well and when his heart rate increses so does the flow of blood to that feather.

If the blood is flowing or dripping , get your bird to the Avian Vet NOW!! You can put flour or , even better, corn starch on the wound, but you must get the bird to the Vet now, because a bird can bleed to death very quickly. They have so little blood to start with!
If the blood is not actually flowing or dripping, and has dried, then the bird may be OK without a trip to the Vet. If you are in doubt, then take him in !
It is better to be safe than sorry if you love your bird.
Good luck.

you have to hold it with a cloth and pull it out fast with tweezers and then put baking flower on the blood after were his feather is comming off. My bird is a weird one.. He looses about 5 blood feathers a week.

PLEASE LISTEN! YOUR BABY HAS BROKEN A BLOOD FEATHER. IT NEEDS TO BE REMOVED. YOU CAN DO THAT, IT REQUIRES TWEEZERS OR PLIERS IF YOU HAVE NO TWEEZERS. THE BLOOD WILL CLOT ON A BLOOD FEATHER, HE WILL NOT DIE BUT THE BROKEN FEATHER NEEDS TO BE REMOVED. PUT A HAND TOWEL OVER THE BIRD SO THAT IT CANNOT FLY. PULL THE WING WITH THE BROKEN FEATHER OUR CAREFULLY AND LOCATE THE BROKEN FEATHER WITH THE TWEEZERS PULL CLOSE TO THE SKIN SO THAT THE WHOLE FEATHER COMES OUT, THE BASE WILL BE HOLLOW. HERE IS A LINL TO BE SURE YOU DO IT CORECTLY. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=15&cat=1912&articleid=2691

a couple of years ago our budgie barnie was flying around the living room and landed on a picture frame. we noticed his wing feather was bleeding and we were worried. but after time it started to heel its self and our budgie just egnored it. your right to be worried but it will heel its self. and if it doesent the best thing to do is take it to a vet.
