Hi, I have 98 Altima, 90K.. its been while it is leaking little bit from front cover. Also I have to change tires, alignement, transmission fluid and engine collant. Can some one suggest me whether it is worth spending on fixing these. I am more concerned about Oil leak, if I fix this, is it possible to have another leak issue, will it go on. Ofcourse this is my second car but looking for suggestiong to make a call... thanks much!!!

I have a 94 Altima, been leaking oil for years. It is a basic design flaw. Expensive to fix but not very damaging if you check your oil and maintain the level. Mine had 84K when I got it, already leaking oil. Never did fix the leak. It never got significantly worse and I got over 200K on it now. Take care of the car and you can get a lot out of it. Especially the Transmission. That is starting to give me trouble now. They are very good cars. Highly durable.

I had the same with my Altima. If you don't plan on selling soon, I'd suggest starting with tires and alignment. Transmission fluid and engine coolant can wait if you want, especially the engine coolant, or you can replace these yourself if you have a garage. I have an Altima and 3 toytas at home and took me less than an hour to change transmission fluid in all of them.

Regarding the oil leak, you'd be better off talking to a couple local mechanics, not the dealer. Also, being big on do-it-yourself, I would suggest exploring such possibility. It could be a matter of replacing a very easily accessible gasket, like the valve cover gasket. These are very simple to replace, and the only thing to keep in mind is to use proper premium-grade gasket dressing and to use a torque wrench to tighten everything.

That car can run for many more years if you don't run it out of oil. If it is a second car and the kids are to young to need it sell it before you spend 1,000's. You should be able to make over $4.500 on that 10 year old car before spending a small fortune on insurance tires oil leaks new radator hoses and CV joint boots that all will start to fail. Front cover, valve cover oil pan gasket all should be done at the same time. The oil presure switch and rear crank seal are next!
