Oxycontin is a controlled release tablet of oxycodone, which is a powerful pain reliever. The purpose of the drug is to provide all day relief, so people with chronic pain don't have to take other drugs every few hours when the pain comes back.

The problem is people crush it to get the effects all at once. In America oxycodone is a schedule II controlled substance, which means it has the strictest regulations for a legal drug.

Hopefully this is enough information to give you somewhere to start your own research.
