I bet further research could reveal these men were obnoxious and controlling. I have met several preachers that better be glad I am a non violent person.
When people get in your face and tell you that you are going to hell that can cause some people to submit to their violent tendencies.

People see them as an easy target, and perhap a threat.
Also they get attacked and then the person who attached the Vickar/Preist/Pasta to steal from the church as they see the church as place where ther are vaulables like the silver plates/cups, Candle sticks, that can all be sold on!

It's a result of what's known in criminology as the "Routine Activity Theory." It has more to do with the success rate of those who want to attack clergy. It's easier to attack a member of the clergy than, for example, a probation officer.
This paper can explain it better than me.

All such physical assaults are to be deplored, but what is so special about 'men of god'? What entitles some one who tells lies and promotes bullshite for a living to consider themselves in the same 'professional' category as Doctors or probation workers?

I wonder if that research included nurses? Hardly a day goes by without abuse of somekind. It is shocking to think any nation of people resort to this intolerable behaviour when things dont go their way, or worse when they do it for kicks.

five murdered in the past decade, and the article really says that they are attacked more frequently than probation officers?
Someone is not being fair and balanced and should be smashed in the face with a hammer of truth.

Because they are easily identified, the dog collar clearly identifies them as a priest but if you see a guy in a suit he could be a laywer/ politician / Doctor...

We are living in a broken society, I agree, but these are just men like the rest of us, not 'holy men'

What is so holy about priests?
The only time I see them on the news they are being sent to prison for paedophilia.
They are also guilty of lying in order to get people to believe in their primitive mumbo jumbo.
Lets face it, these 'holy men' deserve a good kicking!

I will not mention any religion here to be at the safe side.
It depends on the situation. Because some people have too high hopes in the religious leader.
For example 1:
Some people will ask religious leaders for a lottery number and when some religious leaders give them false promises on lottery strikes or political election wins, when the entire community place their entire income on the lottery or political election seats thinking religious leaders get confimation of winning
Example no 2
Some Religious leaders assisted in match-making to marriages, when marriage promises did not work-out or partner selected for life does not have mutual love for one another, that is where arguement begins when you said these couples are made in heaven and guarantee on false hopes on satisfactory looks, real love and loyal to one another, and top-up payment for partner upgrades from 1-4.
Example no 3
Some extremist religious leaders send people for war in another country, not related to them in the parliment politics as front-liners to die/survive in the military when they are not fighters and ask their disciples to die for another country's political seat elections security and extremist religious leaders cheating their income on God, saying that all who fight front-liners will be rewarded in heaven without paying them a single penny to die for another unknown politician's throne, human being.
To be honest, not all religious leaders are like that, some religious leaders do not force people to join their religion and force activities on their disciples.
Some religious leaders are honest and good too.
