I have a really bad case of the runs, so I called in sick today, and told them I wouldn't be able to make it since I didn't want to poop myself on the sales floor.

The manager was kinda ticked off, since apparently two or three other people called in sick today, so he told me I needed to provide a doctor's note or else he'd mark it down as a no-call-no-show.

Now, I'd have no problem providing one to him... if I knew how to go about doing it. I don't have any medical insurance, and even if I did, what would I do? Say, "Hay doc! I've got the runs! Mind writing up a note to tell my employer I'm not BSing him?".

What should I do?

I don't know the legalities involved with your employer but if you need a doctor's note, then you need to see a doc. Just go to his office and say that you have been having diarrhea. The doctor has seen it all before, so don't worry about it. Just be sure to mention needing a note for your sick day and you'll be provided one.
Since you have a problem with insurance, you may want to go to a community health center if there's one near you.

There should be a clinic that you can go to that offers low cost health care. They would write it for you. Or go to the ER. There you can be treated, get a note and even have the social services there help you with the no insurance thing. Maybe get you on a state insurance if you have one. Sorry to hear you have an employer that is not compassionate. Maybe the diarrhea will hit him.

You don't have to do this. You called in sick. Your manager can't threaten you with a no call-no show just because he's upset. You DID call.

Take care of yourself first. Write down the date, time and exactly what was said by both you and the manager. If your manager follows through with his threat there must be someone higher up on the ladder you can report this to.
