My friend wants to marry the father of her child (who was not with her during the pregnancy, he lives in Canda she lives in the UK, he has had partners, she has had partners)

The baby is now 2 years old and the man has only seen his child for the 1st time in August.

They are now engaged.

They want to get married in 2009, but he has does not have his Canadian passport, he was originally from Jamaica.

She wants to up sticks from the UK and live with him in Canada.

He is meant to be coming to the UK to see her in December, but he has not even sorted out the visa and expects her to pay for it because she wants him over there!!

I have asked her, if he is begrudging paying for a visa, how is he going to buy a ring because he seems tight!

How long does it take to get your visa?

Can he be deported if he does not have a passport for the country he lives in?

A tourist visa to the United Kingdom, valid for 6 months costs £63 ($126 CAD)

A tourist visa to the United Kingdom, valid for 1, 2, 5 and 10 years costs £200 ($400 CAD) - The Entry Clearance Officer may decide to make your visa valid for a shorter time than you have asked for, for example if you are not a regular traveller or have never visited the UK before.

However if he traveling with a Canadian passport, then no visa is required.

Regarding how long a visa takes to obtain depends, if he completes his application and pays online and submits his application and all the supporting documents required by mail to the Ottawa office. Then they will be able to process his application without delay.

Straightforward non-settlement applications for UK entry clearances are normally processed within 5 days from the date we receive all your documents in our office. This processing time applies to all methods of submission (by post or dropped-off by appointment).

After it as been processed it is just a matter of waiting for his passport to be returned to him via post - probably around 7-12 working days afterwards.

However he will need to apply for a passport before he can do anything else and this process could take weeks or months depending on the backlog and demand.

Your friend seems dodgy. He lives in Canada without a passport! To be honest I don't think any airlines will transport him.
