Is being a modest a good thing or a bad thing?

it shows humility , but also prevents us from being confident
I believe we have to find a nice balance of both of those ... which is extremely difficult and something I struggle with personally

Modesty is subjective. It is interpreted differently in different places. In most modern countries it indicates insecurity and low self-esteem.

In the west, we have millions of nice girls and beautiful women who are free to wear whatever we choose and modesty is a word only practiced by Catholic nuns. Even some nuns wear modern clothing because dressing like a traditional nun attracts too much attention.

Women in the west wear Capri pants and shorts in summer, when it's hot, and small tank tops that make us feel attractive. We are not ashamed of our bodies and are not uptight and inhibited. The female form is not shameful. It's as natural as the male form. Nothing more, nothing less.

Also, men in the west are very chivalrous and NEVER cross the line in public and insult, accost or assault a western woman except in extremely isolated cases. It's because it's against the law to be a sexual moron, so men don't do it. Men do look, but they're MEN! It's natural instinct for women and men to appeal to each other, unless they're married.

Modesty, in my opinion, is highly over-rated and usually the product of impotent men's minds who are afraid of losing their women to other men who might treat them better.

A bad thing. Modesty connotes self-absorption or an attachment to appearance - if only an 'appearance of piousness' or a psychological fear of 'being seen.'

Give up the 'label' and it is simply 'awareness' of being the opposite of 'attention-seeking through appearance.' For many people 'immodesty' is an attachment.

IF YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE BEING MODEST THEN IT IS FINE, I MEAN THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING MODEST, AND BESIDES I THINK EVERYONE HAS A MODEST SIDE... SOME PEOPLE JUST STRESS IT MORE THAN OTHER...=)

and i would also like to say..that i also like modest men..
but with men things are different..
some don't behave like macho..just because they think it is a work of a woman..so they have fals modesty..so watch out.!..cos they look modest making you belive they like modest women..and actually they are looking at the most stupendous..well she could be also modest..inside..but i mean..she exibits in a way..her beauty..even if natural..

e.g..i comb my hair once a week..and men liked me..while they were there with there wives..and probably i was a modest woman but i let my hair free..and i have curly hair wich draws attention..and when i painted black..and i was young..it was..even outrageous beautifull probably..because a younger men then me..he was 5 years younger..21 maybe..he told his wife..look such a beautiful woman..and he was also a modest man..so take care..modest man have high tastes..so be modest but don't cut all your hair! and dress like a woman..(without short skirts of course etc

Personally I love people who are confident and comfortable with themselves, so that probably means they're not 'modest'.

Modesty can be a good thing, however taken to the extreme it can be self depreciating and cause others to overlook you.

Its definitly a good thing, why would you want guys to look at you and want to be with you just for your looks.
