For example, on a video game message board, someone makes fun of someone else or insults someone for liking a video game that got a bad to average review. Or someone makes fun of someone else for liking the music, TV shows/cartoons, or a movie they liked. Why do people make fun of others for simply being themselves and liking what they like, both on the internet and in general?

There are always people who just put down for the sake of putting down.
In "real" life, do not surround yourself with people like that. Find people who are good and kind and supportive of you, whatever shape and form these people appear in.
Never judge a book by it's cover, or you will miss reading the greatest story you could ever run across.

Ignorance, jealousy, stupidity. Any or all. People who are unsure about themselves usually strike out at others unless they are so introverted they never speak out. It might be surprising to actually meet some of the people who are the most crude and rude in their behavior on line. For some people letting out their frustrations and anger can only be done by dumping on strangers through the Internet. They could probably care less about the game or the person they just see an opportunity to spew their unhappiness and to share the wealth with any poor soul they can tap into without ever having to face. Cowardly behavior but it might serve a kinda twister purpose. One basically has to consider the source and just ignore it. Those folks will do what they do regardless of what ANYONE thinks about it. They feel totally safe and secure on their side of the screen and live a fantasy life in the process.

People make fun of anything because of their habits.
Suppose u like to watch Cartoons. One of ur friends like to watch movies (action). For that person watching cartoon is a boring thing. Now if it happens that u and ur friend watching the television and some cartoon movie is going on. the friend of ur's will think the movie to be an idiotic piece of ****, and will try to make fun ( to mentally demoralise u) so that u will either put the tv off or change the channel due to shame....
this is a perfect example why people makes fun......

Because they wish they could reveal and like what they really like, what is really in their heart, without worrying about what others think! They get angry when they see someone happily just continue with something they like, even if no one else likes it
You see, in my area everyone listens to rap, even people that don't like it. They are too afraid of what other people will say, so they don't listen to the music that they really like.
So, they buy a rap CD and play it in the background just to be like everyone else. It's like, totally different from what music was meant to be used as.
Oh, well!

Because a lot of people are so immature they don't even understand the basis of civilization and culture. Their insecurity blinds them, they are selfish. They are like a little fish playing and splashing in the water, but they don't realize an eagle is coming for them.

They're assses! Who cares what they think? People should remember this: They don't pay your salary, you don't love them and they don't love you, they've never even MET you! If they did, maybe they would shut their pie hole and realize you're a great person! But because they're idiots, (and probably really insecure) they mock you or others just to make themselves feel superior. They are to be pitied. Feel sorry for them. They have no friends.

Its a weaker person's way of trying to look better than you. Call it self elevation. First they try to put you down. Then and only then can they feel elevated. They never receive praise from anyone. (Probably because they are always putting other people down). So they have to create it for themselves.

Being gay has to do with an inner nature that makes you completely fall in love or be attracted by utilizing persons of an same gender as yours. listening to song or clothing humorous does no longer make you gay. flavor in song isn't regarding sexual flavor. you're not from now on gay.
