What would you do if someone you value & trusted told you that praying & being humble to God was weak? This person says I must demand God to do as I need. I know God hears my every word, thoughts & prayers, but demands? This person also knows I wasn't raised very far regliously, but that I have a strong spiritual connection with God on my own.

I feel somewhat torn now, as this person is on her own spiritual path, and I have always believed being humble & asking God for help and understood that it was His will that would provide my path. Am I wrong in believing that demanding from God is a bad thing? Plus I'm having a hard time distinguishing if this person is so far on her spirtual path that there is a need to "influence" my beliefs. Does the Bible reference demanding from God?

To start off with, I am not one of the christian faith, but consider myself a very spiritual being.
I do know this, when it comes to prayer, there are two types of prayer:
1) Prayers of Supplication: this is when we act as children making a list for Santa, and demanding, as you put it, selfish things....give me, give me, give me.....etc...

2) Prayers of Affirmation: this is when we humble ourselves to god, seek the will of god, ask for the power to carry that out, and turn all of our troubles over to god and saying
"Thank-You", knowing that our requests have been heard and things are already taken care of.

It is my beliefs that you should not allow other peoples thoughts affect your spirituality nor sway you from your beliefs. Stick to what is true to you and what is right in your heart.

What may be true and right for one, may not be true or right for another. We must all walk our own path, and make our own choices....

I hope you find what it is you seek.

Blessings

Study the Lord's Prayer - how did JESUS teach us to pray?

In some circles "Give us this day our daily bread" could be considered a demand I suppose!

Also read JAMES - there we are clearly advised not to ask GOD for anything with greedy or selfish motives.

In short - having good believing friends in your life can be a true blessing - as long as you don't substitute their counsel for the word of GOD.

Its not right to demand from God
God will do as He sees fit, whether you like it or not.
Praying & being Humble is not weak. That is what God wants us to do.
Yep it sounds like that person is off the path to sumwhere bad.

The Rev. Kenneth Hagin says you can demand from God if you need something and know it is a right thing and helpful thing your asking of God. Also, the Rev. Kenneth Copeland also says the same thing.

The Bible calls God (Jesus) LORD.
That's just ONE of His tiles, or names. Gives one the knowledge of our relationship with Him.
Does one DEMAND from their superior? Should one DEMAND from their LORD?
No. Absolutely not.
WE serve HIM!!!
It is a twisted theology out there today which makes God into some sort of a whipping boy/cosmic Kris Kringle, someone duty-bound to do OUR bidding.
That is so totally backwards.
Plain and simple- we serve Him, not He us. He is God and Lord, NOT us.

You can ask God for things thru prayer, but you can not demand something from Him

You obviously have your own beliefs on the matter. You both just happen to believe in different things. One of you is probably wrong, maybe both. You'll never really know. I personally don't pray--because things are going to happen either way.
