She's 16 and really loves wet food. We are giving her dry food too, but it's harder for her to eat than wet food.
Is there a dry food that is a little softer?
Or is it ok to have her on just wet food.
What's the best wet food for a senior dog?

If your dog is having a hard time eating dry food then you can find a good quality wet food to feed her.
Just make sure it is good quality food.

Try soaking the dry food in warm water before feeding her. Certainly, there are wet foods that are high quality that would make up an adequate diet. It's more expensive, but maybe she's worth it. Here's a site that will help you identify high quality canned food.

I have a little Pomeranian who is 11 years old now and when he had a few teeth that had to be pulled I switched him to wet dog food. I did it gradually by mixing the dry with the wet so he wouldnt get diarhea or anything and it worked really well. Im with you on this one! I dont know what Im going to do when he is gone.....he's my baby.

A really good option for her might be to soak her dry kibble - either in warm water or a bit of (no salt) chicken broth. That'll soften it for her and also make it smell better so she'll want to eat it. You can also stir in a bit of cottage cheese, or some kind of canned fish like sardines (which my dogs go crazy for!) or tuna.

I babysat a really old greyhound who didn't have any teeth at all. His owner fed him on moistened kibble, with a can of some kind of fish or meat added, as well as cottage cheese or yogurt and he did really well on that.

According to my vet, senior food isn't always the best for a dog because it doesn't fill them up. If you want to try a senior food, maybe ask your vet's opinion first.

Most wet foods aren't complete, so she may not be getting the correct balance, or all the nutrients she neeeds.
Try moistening a good quality complete, senior food, with a little warm water out the kettle. Hopefully that will meet her half way. =)

Canned food is fine for dogs, as long as it is a good-quality food without fillers. See the link below for some good choices.

canned dog food is not good for the dogs teeth.you'll have to brush the teeth much more.also its very sugary and thats why they love it.also the protein amount isn't high enough and its mostly water so you have to feed a ton of it.since your dog loves it so much mix it in with the dry.i recomend canidae platinum.its formulated for seniors.its holistic and human grade using antibiotic free meats.they have exellent dry and canned products.
