Such stats are suspect because many nonbelievers are afraid to admit their lack of belief, even to poll takers, fearing repercussions.
Also, there are many who claim belief in deities but not in organized religion; my mother falls into that category. She's a bible-thumpin' believer, but says churches today are ruled by pagan influences.

There are many who will tick the box which says they are Christians. However ask them about anything to do with god, Jesus and the whole damed thing, and they haven't a clue.
Hatch - Match - Dispatch Christians
Fundys may be a bunch of weirdo fanatics but at least they know what their into.

You do not need to be at a chruch, to believe in and worship the LORD, God. True believers will know that they can worship Him, in Spirit and in Truth . .which can be done anywhere that is private, like in your home, or in your bedroom , etc. Just because you attend a chruch and/or be part of a religious organization, does not mean everyone in there, believes in LORD, Jesus. You would want to believe so, but that isn't always the case.
Consider this:
LORD, Jesus said that there will come a time (which is now. .near the end of times) that true believers (Christians) will not be able to worship in many local churches, anymore . .for they will be persecuted for their faith as one, by being rejected and thrown out by the other religious church members. This was already happening in the Synagogne, when LORD Jesus Christ preached the Good News about His Father's Kingdom of Heaven while He was on earth, and later, when His followers were preaching the Good News about LORD, Jesus in all the local churches.
So, being a church member and worshiping in a local church does not necessary mean that everyone in there, are true believers of LORD Jesus Christ. But, it would be very pleasing in God's eyes to see all believers make the effort to come together, and worship God, in Spirit and in Truth, to be there for each other to encourage and help one another, as brothers and sisters in Christ. But, in this spiritually-dying world that we live in today, the world is making it very hard for true believers (Christians) to do this . .without being rejected and presecuted by others of religious faith.
LORD, Jesus Christ desires and is more concerned about us, Christians worshipping Him in Spirit and in Truth, not actually where we do it. But, He encourages us, Christians to stick together, like glue, for we all need one another to spiritually grow (mature in faith) and help each other as well as others, in times of need.
Christians, May we keep our faith strong in LORD, Jesus and do what we can, while we can, and all that we can, with the time God is giving us. Make every moment count!

You have obviously not been to all of the churches in America, have you?
Some of them arefilled to capacity for every service. Some are not. Many churches have so many who want to attend that they have 3-5 services every Sunday.
What does that tell you?
