No matter how well I wash my fruit and vegetables, my kitchen (and trash can) are SWARMING! And they seem to follow me into the living room and my yogurt into my bedroom.. The only safe thing I thought of was hair spray! That was pathetic. Netting? Just filled with fruit flies who escape no matter how gingerly I try to remove my banana. And bananas andtomatoes aren't meant to go in fridge. HELP!!!

Buy some fly-paper and cut an apple into pieces place the apple pieces on the paper and walk away. Come back 4 hrs later and throw the paper in the trash along with the 500 or so flies.

I am a scientist that use to work with fruit flies. They are harmless. To get rid of them, put out a couple bowls of apple cider vinegar. The flies are attracted to this stuff, so they will get caught in it. If you keep food picked up for awhile and trap them, they should hopefully not be a problem soon. Good luck. In regards to killing them in the fridge and microwave, neither of these should work. The only way to kill them with cold is to freeze them for long periods of time. This is probably the same with heat (microwave not hot enough).

yeah, I know what you mean...I had experience with those fruit flies, gnats, drain flies...they have many names that people refer to...good thing is they have very short life span....bad thing is they multiply like crazy...hehehe. i poured some half cup of orange juice and left it near where the mass of fruit flies are and at end of the day they are all over the orange juice cup and many drowned at the bottom...this is old fashion ways to get rid of some...keep all your fruits, bananas sealed tight on zip lock bag or you're gonna have to put it in the refriderator to keep it away from them and you want to keep it away or they will be many millions of swarming gnat flies all over your house...in the bathroom, from the drain..bedroom, and its nasty.

you can get a net to put over your fruit.
the kicker is they eat more than just fruit. any food left out is game to them.
i think you can find the picnic netting online.

Get a cat. As soon as one fruit fly appears my cats hunt them and get rid of them. They seem to be really amused by it as well. ;)
