It will either be 0 or the AV channel. It is normally 0 if you are just using an aerial connection. If you are using a scart lead you should use the AV channel.
If you are just using the aerial connection and are not getting a signal. Put in a video which you know has a programme on and press play. If you can't find it on any channel on the TV, select the channel on which you would like to watch it and tune that channel until you find the video signal.

If you are using the UHF (aerial lead) from your VCR to the televsion set then it is normal for the UHF output of the video machine to be on UHF channel 36 or 38.
If your television set can be manually tuned then select a free number (e.g. 0) and the run the tuner to look for an input on UHF 36 (or 38).

If your tele can be automaticlly tuned then it's easiest to put in a tape that you'll recognise and then let the television search until you've found it.

If your TV has a SCART socket, plug the SCART lead into it and the other end into the VCR. Switch the TV to AV mode and the picture will appear. Otherwise you will have to tune a free channel on the TV to the VCR's output channel (varies from make to make). To RECORD on the VCR you need to tune it to receive your local TV stations according to the instruction manual.

As you have not used a SCART cable you are going to have to tune your TV into the channel your video is using

start a tape playing and and start your TV scanning for the channel

if you don't know how to start a scan post the make & model of your TV

I believe it is AV2..
At least that is the one that works on mine

Go through the Avs and it shoudl be there...
Otherwise check all cables are in the right place as you could have mixed up to which would mean that you can hear it but not see it

Good luck =]
