UH, they're desiccant packets to keep the moisture from turning your beef jerky into mold jerky...were they yummy? I know that you saw the writing on it that says "Do Not Eat"!
****Lol, I figured you didn't, I'm not quite that gullible!

These are oxygen scavengers not dessicant.

They are nothing more than iron filingd in a tyvek wrapper that when closed in the beef jerky bag use the available moisture and oxygen in the bag and "rust" until there is no more oxygen.

The result is a an oxygen free bag which can preserve jerky indefinately.

Um... I hope this is a joke, and you haven't tried to sprinkle those on your food.

Those packets contain silica gel crystals, a chemical with a high affinity for water. They absorb excess moisture out of the air to keep the jerky dry and fresh. They are highly toxic if ingested. (Which is why the package says "Do Not Eat!" all over it.)

Silica gel is not really a poison. It is a dessicant placed in the package to make sure that the dried meat of your jerky doesn't get spoiled by moisture. Unless you eat enough of it to conglomerate and cause an obstruction in your bowel, I wouldn't expect it to cause you any other problems....well, other than tasting bad.

Those are not salt. It is dessicant, moisture absorbing crystals. They normally say "Do Not Eat" on them.

It's not salt...it is some chemical used to keep things fresh.
