If the only thing you have holding you life together is religion, then a shift in it WILL affect your life.
I constantly see and hear Christians talking about letting "God" be in control of your life. If you are approaching your life from that view, it is no wonder that you feel lost and adrift.
It is only when one takes responsibility for what happens in ones life that you discover that wrong turns can be corrected if YOU want to.
The best way out of a bad situation is to switch from victim to survivor mode as soon as possible.

You are probably going to get answers both ways. People who believe may say of course, that's it. People who don't, like myself so you know, are likely to say just coincidence. I will say it is possible there is some correlation. Not that I think a deity is behind it but that if your faith gave you a support system and way of looking and coping with life and then you lose that it can affect you negatively. If this is the case though you can find other ways of dealing with life's choices, developing an ethical system, and dealing with the bad stuff that happens in everyone's life regardless of their beliefs. It could be this coupled with a bit of coincidence. There is a lot of good stuff out there to read about living a positive and ethical life without God and dealing with life's problems without religion. If it helps to know I went through a hard period at first when I stopped believing just because it was something I used to share with so many friends and family. Over time though being honest with what reality was telling me was right for me. My life is overall quite happy and successful and so are many of the lives of my other friends who aren't Christians or believers. So it seems unlikely its anything to do with a deity or rejecting belief. Keep learning. Best wishes.

Well...it COULD be that your life always "sucked" and that your religion just put a comforting illusion over it? When I first lost my faith in any god, my life "sucked" too, but I got over it, losing something like that can be hard for people (I used to be super-religion, but then I became agnostic, then atheist, for various reasons.) Keep on keeping on, that's the only advice I can give you. I don't think the first thing I said is true, I'm just throwing it in there just to do it, another side of things if you will. I believe that you're in shock or something because that illusion (God) is no longer there to comfort you to the world's harsh realities, like what happened with me. Now I'm happier than when I was an uber religious Jesus freak...But that's my path, not yours or anyone else's. I wish you the best of luck and I hope this helps some!! ^_^

Your course in philosophy did more to bring you down, than build you up.
Why not take Ghandi's idea and put it to the test?
Find christians who are just like Christ.
Jesus stated:
"Broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and MANY are the ones going in through it, whereas narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and FEW are the ones finding it."
Matthew 7:13.
It seems the ones most like Christ would be a relatively small group.
Maybe, one day, they'll knock on your door.
That is a christ-like thing to do.

For one thing God exists, and no scientific proof is needed for that. It's just a matter of belief. If you want proof, look at nature around you, and how life is, how there are numerous and various people with their own unique personalities and DNA.
It's not a coincedence in my opinion. This is just a hard experience you're going through. You'll be able to pass it. Since you weren't satisfied being Christian, and you aren't satisfied being an Agnostic, then maybe you should search for your own Truth and find it. Do let people influence you. Let yourself choose between what's right and wrong, using your own conscience. God willing, you'll find your place and path again. That's my advice to you.

No. My inter-faith marriage works o.k.. we are the two very tolerant and accepting of what the different believes. My husband is a Christian, and that i'm a Pagan/witch. We get alongside completely nicely, and we'd be depressing without one yet another.

Religion is NOT what God wants for you. To accept Jesus as your Savior and as Lord over your life..., meaning to accept His accomplishments as being just for you as an individual and accepting that the sin price is paid in your behalf when you ask Him to come and live your life through you.
Then you are FREE from life's human struggle because you are leaning on Jesus!
Religion is mostly man's way of deciding HOW to work and worship and how to designate themselves separate from other of God's followers. It is NOT God's plan or way.
BE like Jesus. BE a Christian that YOU want to be. DO what YOU think is God's plan for His children and forget what others are doing. Jesus forgave people and encouraged them. The only people He criticized or exposed was the religious leaders of His day. Let Him do that now..., we don't know people's motives like He did.
Just follow Jesus and worship with folks who seem to love Jesus and call yourself nothing but a Jesus follower. Try that.
To turn from religion isn't the same as turning from the Lord..., that's a mistake and life can't work very well without Him.

Well, considering that the majority of atheists are living perfectly happy lives, it's not the loss of your religion in and of itself that would be contributing to the bad things in your life.
It could be a coincidence, or it could be that you somehow anticipate your life being bad because of your loss of faith, and therefore it becomes self-fulfilling.
Don't attribute things to religion. Look at each thing that's going wrong in your life, and determine how you can make it better. You can improve your life, and you can be happy, but you need to take the responsibility to make it so.

Philosophy class has that effect on anyone of any faith. It's the old satanic spin, "Yea, hath God said...?" in a modern package.
