That's saying that they obey someone else ABOVE the nation, RIGHT IN the PLEDGE to that nation. I can't believe they added this back in the 50's. That's whacked, for a country to officially adopt a message of subserviance to a particular religion's diety. That's not encouraging for religious freedom. I wouldn't be surprised if they were having OTHER freedom "issues" back then too (wink, wink).

You're darn right I would, but then again the muslim population in North America in the 1950's was significantly less than it is now, so they wouldn't have gotten anywhere with it. Thus it becomes an issue of a minority over representing it self as the majority. Plus we didn't hear about the ones who are extremist back then, so they seemed less threatening all together. But still christian, muslim, or some theology that is completely different, it doesn't matter, as a democracy we shall stand not as a theocracy!

It's not treasonous for a people to acknowledge their sovereign Creator (the God of the Holy Bible) from whom all blessings flow. It's just being truthful about who we are and where we came from.
To deny the mighty Fortress who is our God is simply foolish and vain and accounts for the spiritual bankruptcy underlying our culture of death. Denying the almighty and sovereign God of our fathers explains our lack of prosperity as a nation and the loss of manufacturing jobs to third world countries and why both parents have to work yet can't even begin to raise or support a family.
Yea, go ahead and get rid of "one nation under God" in the pledge of allegiance. What other country allows "the tail to wag the dog" where a few dissenters and rebellious fools have power over the vast majority of God fearing and believing Americans.

USA isn't my country, they can make belief in the invisible Pink Unicord mandatory for all I care.
Start messing with our legal system and I will call it treason.

upsetting to some non-Christians? it pretty obviously is...treasonous? hardly...do you not hold your personal moral/spiritual 'code' above earthly concerns like politics? leave it in, take it out, it's of no consequence to me...i am a Christian first, although that may be upsetting to some...Christ was, long before this nation was founded, and Christ will remain, long after this nation is just a reference in some book of ancient history...nations rise, nations fall...that's the way of things throughout history...but Christ is eternal

You do not say what particular religion the word "God" belongs to as evidence that your question is valid. Therefore, it is an invalid question.
It also says, "In God we trust" on our currency and that all men are "created" equal in the Constitution.
Notice a theme here? That's what makes the nation the USA.

The moron who is the governor of Texas put "Under God" in the Texas Pledge.
I told my son he does not have to say that because it is not the truth.

Personally, I have issues with that. I've heard people here claim on several occasions that they're "Christians first, Americans second". That's disturbing.
