I am impressed by his museum section at Bass Pro, and I'm reading a book about him.

As a kid I worshipped him, he was a frequent contributor to Field and Stream and was instrumental in getting archery into the hunting world. He set many first in archery and was a true pioneer of the sport in every sense of the word. He caught a lot of flack from gun hunters becuase they felt that hunting with bow and arrow was inhumane and should be outlawed. My very first "real" bow was a 40lb recurve made by his company. Got many a rabbit with it as a kid, but didn't use it for deer.

He is the reason I became a hunter. Nobody in my family hunted, but I hapened to pick up his book back in the 70s, when I was around 10. After reading it I knew it was something I had to do. I got my first bow immediately (a little Bear) and began hunting squirrels and rabbits, Then got a bigger bow and began hunting deer. I didn't start hunting with a rifle until I was in my mid twenties. Now I do both.

I read several books on him back in college, when I started shooting bow. I still have my Bear Grizzly re-curve. He was a great bow hunter and all around outdoorsman.

Great person....the biggest problem with that short description is that, even though most bow hunters will agree with it, they *very* seldom try to emulate him or that description in any way.

If he were around today, I tend to think he would give up on bowhunting out of sheer disgust.

Just my opinion, but since it's mine, it's worth more than anyone else's (lol)
