The Christian devil is an almagamation of several entities from mythology. From a Christian perspective - Lucifer, Satan, The Devil, Baal, - all stand for the same entity.
You can even see how new aspects for this entity are absorbed into Christian myth - like the Horned type devil taken from the Celtic Cernunos. Or the African hoodoo trickster spirit Legba being brought in etc.
As far as I can tell - Lucifer comes from Roman mythology and is the "light bringer" who brings light to mankind. Not entirely unlike Prometheus.
I have heard that Satan is a derivation of Shatim - a middleeastern entity roughly meaning "Advesary".

No they are not. As one person said, Lucifer was the shinning star, in one verse of the bible the ONLY verse of the bible which uses Lucifer (or at the least the one of many versions there are out that that I just happen to have) it says that god told Lucifer to "go back to the earth from whence you came"
The only shinning star there ever was and the only person ever made from the earth was Adam, thus Lucifer IS Adam, he was an angel in the eyes of god that fell when he ate the forbidden fruit.
Satan is the king of hell, a tempter.
Lucifer and Satan are NOT the same person

No. Lucifer was a descriptive designation applied to the “king of Babylon.” (Isa 14:4, 12) The Hebrew expression thus translated comes from a root meaning “shine.”The rendering “Lucifer” is derived from the Latin Vulgate.
Satan on the otherhand we need no introduction to.

Yes. Lucifer was the name that he had before he was cast out of the presence of God and Satan is the name that he received afterwards.

In a sense because lucifer is the devil before he became the devil, and lucifer was a trusted angel i believe but the evilness came, god gave him his own world and now he is the devil.

No - Lucifer was the bringer of light - a shining star.
Satan was the tempter and deceiver of Job. He also attempted to deceive Jesus when he went to the desert and fasted, and was the one to promise him the world (which Satan has no control over since it is God's creation, not Satan's.
They were both rebelious against the creator God.
