My mommy means the world to me. and you only turn 60 once in your life. She loves to read books, and has written a couple of unpublished fantasy novels. She is also a jewelry designer, and works for the gov full-time. One of her LOVES is raw gem stones. I would LOVE to take her to Arkansas to the ONLY open diamond mine in America or to a place that you can mine your own semi-precious gems (sapphires, opals, emeralds, etc). Her birthday is also in March, so I want to take her somewhere before it got really hot. She's not into anything that's to girly like shopping for clothing, shoes, or makeup, (except her jewelry business). I had thought about taking her for a long weekend to a resort where she could get facials, manicures, pedicures, massages.Taking her to favorite bead shop and giving her a $1,000 and let her buy to her hearts content. I would like some opinions here.

A vacation is nice, and while there how about presenting her with a nice sapphire pendent, they sell at macys for $1700 Regular price is $3000, pricey but it is the most beautiful antique broach I have ever saw. I don't know how many siblings there are, but there are alot of us to putting funds together would be easy. But I'd give her a vacation to remember.

Many "dig-your-own" crystal mines are available in the Ouachitas with most of the mines located in the area around the resort city of Hot Springs and the small Ouachita Mountain hamlet of Mount Ida. The mines consist of pits and exposed hillsides where backhoes and bulldozers have removed the soil and clay in search of the quartz veins that run through these ancient mountains. Whether you are a beginning digger or an experienced rockhound, you are sure to find a spot at the various mines well suited for you.

At some crystal mines, there are areas where crystals are literally lying on the ground and all you have to do is pick them up. Often the only equipment needed is a screwdriver or a small garden tool to loosen the dirt and a bucket to hold the Arkansas crystals. For avid rockhounds, there are also spots where experience and patience are needed along with a crowbar or chisel. Regardless of the area you dig in, it is best to wear old clothes and shoes because you will get dirty. Although most crystal mines allow people to dig for crystals year-round, the best time of year to mine is during the spring and fall when temperatures are cool.

I think that doing all of that with your mother is a more than AWSOME gift. I think that she would really enjoy it. Have fun and I hope she likes it.

There are some wonderful resorts in Arkansas, that sounds really nice. You can have her pampered and let her mine for her own gemstones. What a great idea, sounds like you have taken the time to get to know your mom and there isn't a better blessing for a parent.

You seem like such a considerate daughter! Maybe if she likes to read and write books, you can take her to a book signing to her favorite author. Arkansas sounds wonderful! You can get your own gems and toss them into a sack. [Well, not toss because they might break easily. ;) ] You can take them home, and make them into a necklace for your mom, since she is a jeweler.

Well, I am sure your mom would like everything that you plan for her if her children are willing to spend more time to accompany her on that day.
