I think it's the constant brainwashing that children constantly need the latest toy or they are being neglected.

American consumerisim is to blame.

Their are certain toys that I see come Christmas/birthday time and I just look at them and say, "There's no way in hell that's EVER going to be in my house!"

Cartoons I'm ok with, since my kids aren't big TV watchers. Certain toys that make noise I don't mind. It's just those loud obnoxious objects that play the same song over and over or say the say thing over and over. It's one thing if it's singing about numbers or the alphabet, but my son had this one toy when he was little that drove me crazy! It was this little truck that only sang this one song about cars and would spin around. He LOVED it and would play with it all the time. After a while, hearing "Cars drive fast, Cars drive slooowwwww..." started to get into my head and I'd find myself at working singing it! It became a bedroom toy and that's the only place he was allowed to play with it. Now I see what everytoy does, check how many phrases it says and what exactly it does in the toy store. I've also become a huge fan of arts and crafts stuff: beads, string, markers, paper etc. Simple clean up and quiet.
Best Wishes =]

All I have to do is turn off my hearing aids if something becomes annoying, but I can still see my child playing with his loud toys or tv is too loud...Goes in one ear out the next. Most of the time I leave my hearing aids on, learn to tolerate it, it will only be for a short time, or take it away after awhile, then give it back later. Don't get upset and then your child will see that you are upset for playing with their toys and then they will be confused.

Just say, please play with something more quietly. Like go colour or play with blocks or play a board game or go play outside.

I think what drove me over the edge was the cartoons specially Big Comfy Couch. We used to watch it several times a day. Remember you can take the batteries out of toys.

We don't watch TV, so I don't have to deal with the cartoons...but I know it would drive me crazy!!

As far as toys...I don't think my son really has any super loud toys...the only thing he owns that drives me a bit batty is his rocking horse. It sings a song about a little pony when you squeeze the ears...and it's pretty obnoxious lol

Along with being annoying, loud toys can actually damage kid's ears. Little kids especially tend to hold them right up to their ears to listen to the noises.

Cartoons at least can be turned down....or even muted and watched with captions.

Yes. Rock and Roll Zoe (sesame street) started it, and I think the Disney Channel finally sent me over the edge. There's no cure for me now.

No, but it is a good reason why young people should be having children and not people over 40. How else could one learn patience?
