Has anyone visited this city before? Was it worth the trip? Was there lots to see/do?

Oh my god it is a virtual dustbin, Why do you want to go there. Well shenyang has nothing try visiting dalian or dandong if you live in china. If not shenyang trip from abroad is just madness.

If you want to see unemployed factory workers, like if you are a journalist, Shenyang is the place to visit. Big city, large population, many (closed) state owned heavy industry factories. Like Detroit, if you are familiar with the US.

For a tourist, however, there are not many attractions there, except the Royal Palace of Manchurians before they cross the Great Wall and occupied the main part of China 360 years ago. That palace is like a smaller Forbidden City in Beijing.

I have been there. It reminds me of Tanjing: industrialized with not as much to do and see as some of the bigger cities in China. There are a few shopping centers and restaurants. Soccer seems to be very popular and there are a lot of Universities here as well. I would not go here for fun but can have fun for a few days if I am there.

You could visit the cocentration camp where they send the Falun Gong believers.
