I had to stop and think for a while before answering your question, 'cos I stirred up a complete hornets nest when very new to the site by asking why some people ask (seemingly) inane questions such as "should i eat a biscuit today?" (parody only people don't get mad). I asked that question because so many other questions were either funny or made me think, that the others just seemed to spoil a good thing.
Some of the responses I had were not just rude but actually quite personal but I doubt had we met face to face the same situation would have arisen. For a start I would probably been able to phrase my question in manner less likely to cause "offence" but also I think the anonymity of this forum enables some people to sharpen their tongue at the expense of others in a way they could never do in the open, real world.
I like to take this site comparatively seriously, that doesn't mean I can't see the funnier side of some questions and some of the answers they are genuinely funny, witty and make me laugh. However, there are people here who are looking for real answers to real problems and a little respect costs nothing. Like some of the others here I write as I think or maybe vice versa. One of the reasons for taking a while to decide whether to answer this was wondering if I would offend anyone again. We'll see.
Keep asking your questions my friend and most of us will keep answering. Best of luck.

Well, its different over the internet. Most of the time when you see someone being rude, or cussing over the internet, it is a little 7 year old boy that learned some new words on the TV, and feels big when he says them to people, becuase he can't get in trouble, but is still doing the behaivor. Another possibility is that it is some person, probably older, that is grumpy, and dosn't have the time of day for other people, because they suspect they are better than everyone else becuase they are older. The last possibility is that some kid thought your question was stupid, but just wanted the two points, and decided to get them by being rude, and get a kick out of it. Dont take the comments personally, these people are just trying to make themselves look cool.

The only time ive answered remotely rudely is when someone is asking an offensive question.
But people have been rude to me when ive merely asked a question about a car so some people just do it for the laugh. Its like the real world. Some people are just nasty. If i went round my work place and asked the same question some people would be rude and some people would help!

I take your point that people post Qs because they genuinely do not know the answer, but some of the Qs on here really are unbelievable. I struggle to comprehend that certain individuals have so little general knowledge ( and such poor spelling) and I must admit to posting less than sympathetic/mocking answers. What I would say though, and I am sure I am not alone in doing this, is that when I do take the rise out of people I mean it in a good-natured way - I really do not set out with the intention to offend. And that, my friend, has to be the most serious answer I have ever given on here.

I've found some people lack reading comprehension skills; therefore spewing out ignorant answers. Also, there are a lot of children on this site, personally I think they should have their own yahoo answer site. Lastly, some people are so self righteous they put others down to bring themselves up. P.S. some questions are offensive and the end result are rude responses.

I have wondered that too. I guess it's just easier to be an idiot hiding behind a computer screen. Bet they wouldn't be that bold in person! I do wish people would try to be more respectful here and not so judgemental (I see it ALOT in the pets section )

Some people need to feel superior and the only way they can do this is by being a smart A## on their computers. Or the saying about the polyamourus thing is true,, size wise that is.

a lot of lthe time you come on here and ask a question as you say because you dont know the answer, but that same answer might be obvious to someone else and instead of sharing it peole are sarcastic and it not nice but they dont seem to know how to articulate any other way....i can be sarcastic with the best of them but i can also tell a genuine question when i see one and try and give an answer as best i can....i find it easier to ignore the prats......and look at the good answers...

I think they're rude because of the anonimity. I think some people behave differently on YA because they can say what they want without anyone knowing who they really are. You're right; people can be awfully rude on here.

some people will give you a honest opinion, whilst others will be rude, just to get there 2 points, or is it that they are as ignorant on the subject, don't know the answer so post smart alec comments, believe me i have had a few of those myself, about genuine medical problems, they can be upsetting, i just give a thumbs down, then i don't have to look at it again.
