I'd love to have him as a friend. I get the feeling that he's a lonely guy. Won't "worship" him though.

Not only an ordinary friend but a true, faithful and best friend! But being Lord Jesus as my friend it does not mean i would not let Him be my controlling deity and sufficiency! Joh 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Joh 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Besides, to me Lord Jesus is more than what you're describing Him, for the peace in my heart alone can not be subtituted with any material or physical fun or whatever you call it!
People always misunderstood Him since then;Joh 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
Joh 6:52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
Joh 6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
Joh 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
Joh 6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
Joh 6:56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
Joh 6:57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
So can you understand such Holy Words from God?

Why would you think;
Christ likes to tell people how it is
OR
Christ likes to war.
In my experience Christ enjoyed hanging out in "Pubs", eating and drinking.
Matthew 11:19
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
I think you have no idea Who Christ is or What Christ did.
I believe you listen to a lot of propaganda believing it as if it was Gospel, probably while accusing Christians of being naive because they believe in the Gospel as Gospel.
Quit reading what people say about the Bible and actually try reading the Bible with an open mind.
I couldn't begin to understand scripture until I first started reading the Bible with an open mind, like a small child without any preconceptions.

Jesus Christ wants only to have a loving relationship with us. We all see Him as a controlling deity at one time or another. We have to get to know Him better and then we will see that that isn't the case.

He's my older brother! He taught me to trust my father and see him as he does. "Our father who art in Heaven"...Churches said I couldn't expect God to listen directly to me but Christ said that I am God's child. I choose to believe Christ. It works for me but I do NOT attend church and haven't since the asst. minister's wife scratched my baby girl's thigh with a bloody scratch several inches along her left thigh because she had a tug of war with her twelve year ols step sister who promised me to keep her that Sunday that I was unable to attend. The wife was the nursery teacher and insisted that the baby go to the nursery. THAT is not GOD"S love. Church was never intended to be a place where baby's are bloodied in a foolish battle of will betwween a woman and a soon to be woman of that baby. We learn at the expense of others what is right. No, I don't need churches to teach about love!

The real question should be does Jesus see me as His friend? Does He know me?
If we're not sure, we should cause on that fateful day, we don't want to be told by Him, "Depart from me, you workers of iniquities, I never knew you."
Your question reminds me of a legend of Abraham Lincoln. It is said that he once saw a slave auction in progress. He out bid them all, and paid the fee. Upon taking the slave to a safe place, he gave the slave her freedom. She asks, "does this mean I am free to go any place I want?" Abraham said, "you're free. You can go." To which she said, "I choose to go with you. I'll follow you."
A true Christian is one who loves Jesus cause He first loved us. We draw near to Him cause He first drew near to us while we were yet sinners. God loves us so much that He paid the fine in our place on the cross, and so we follow Him...we have no other place we'd rather be.

Islam is controlling not Jesus as he gives us free will to do right or wrong.
Islam is as some Christians have done try to convert but many have learned that it is God him self to be excepted by each and every one and not by force.

Reminds me of one of my all-time favorite hymns "What a friend we have in JESUS."
And one of my all-time favorite scriptures:
"You are my friends if you do what I command. My command is this - love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: that a man lay down his life for his friends." - JOHN 15

Jesus is our friend.
John 15
13Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. 14You are my friends if you do what I command. 15I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
