Use anchors. You can find them in any home improvement store. They work great. May I suggest the screw in anchors. they are easier to install and have a better hold.
Good luck!!!

Yes you could use some mud it is called but it does not have the layer of paper that is on drywall you only have a hole with some water soluable drywall past The only thing that you can do is get a STAR ahchor that is the kind that when you screw it in it spreads the bottom open to make a star shape of Fill the old hole in when you get some drywall patch paste remember the mud patch is just that a patch not a new piece of drywall. Make a new hole just below or to either side of the bad one 1" - 2" away you want the old hole on top not on the bottom of the new hole you need the good drywall on the bottom of the hole

You need to find a stud in the wall behind the sheetrock and screw into that. Otherwise, you can use a toggle bolt. DO NOT use those little plastic wedges as they do not hold any weight. But you can find plastic anchors at home depot that have VERY wide threads that screw into the sheetrock. Those are good.

You need to use some type of anchor. Go to a hardware or home improvement store and ask someone there for help. Without knowing what you are trying to use the screws for, it's nearly impossible to tell you what type to use here.

get the screw holders available at the nearest hardware store, but as a crude mechanism i mayn suggest that go in for wooden pieces taken out of the cut out wood and plug it in the hole before getting the screw in.
It works well and is stronger than the anchors(screw holders)

Make sure the screws are long enough and are firmly embedded in the studs.

You have to make sure you are drilling them in to a support beam. It has to have something to screw into.

there are many different types of hollow wall anchors, so it depends on what you want to hang.
