I am moving into the NY city next fall. If I make a down payment on a new car, is it worth it? I will still have to pay it off after I am gone for school right?

yes unless you want it to be repossessed. If you have the cash to buy a good used car then buy one you can pay for and not worry about making payments.

You're making a down payment on a new car or a regular payment? There's a big difference. A down payment means you have not bought it yet. If you're moving to NYC and have not bought the car, don't buy it! You will NOT need a car in NYC. Public transportation is good enough there. If you have bought the car and are making payments, YES, you will have to continue making them regardless of where you go or risk repossession.
