Pobet, yes I do know the definition- thanks. My family has been in the US for generataions. Why do you assume otherwise?

The term illegal immigrant shouldn't even be used. It's illegal alien. An immigrant is supposed to be LEGAL.

2007-10-07 00:56:14 · update #3

bob s, that is a fallacy. Most immigrants are NOT illegal.

The truth is that the pro-amnesty group WANT to blend the two groups together. They know that most Americans support legal immigrants and that legals soften many of the statistics when it come to costs and crime.

One poster I remember droned on and on about immigrants having lower crime rates and using fewer social services he even had sources to cite. It wasn't until you read into the numbers that you would discover that the sources depended more on the legal immigrants and intentionally excluded illegals by only counting those between the ages of 18 and 25. This of course is the age group of countless legal immigrants who come to this country to earn a college degree and excludes the majority of illegals who sneak into the country seeking work "off the books"

Please ignore the negative comments that refer to all immigrants, the majority of Americans are only opposed to the illegal variety of immigrants. (yes, I just used the term immigrant right there as well, but then 40-44% of illegals start out as legal visa holders who stay beyond the time they have permission for)

Actually, it is the other way around. Most people are trying to twist the facts and lump illegals in to the same group as those who came here legally and followed the rules.
Most people know the difference between a criminal and some one who is a legal, lawful immigrant. It seems only those who are PRO illegal, criminal invaders like to twist up the definitions and try and put words in other peoples mouths. Suddenly if you are against illegal, criminal, scamming invaders you are against all immigrants when nothing could be further from the truth!
Unfortunately the PRO criminal groups can not defend the simple fact that their clientele crossed the border and remain in this country illegally, so they attempt to cloud the issue by saying people are racists, anti-immigrant etc etc.

So, to clarify, most Americans are offended by people who cross borders in the dead of night in defiance of laws that we, as a society, have put in place.
Those are not the same people as those who come here legally, follow are rules and laws, wait their turn etc. These people are called immigrants and are welcomed.
Note the difference?

Who assumes "immigrants" are illegal? This is a wrong assumption. Any thing or person that is "illegal" is something or someone which is costing the rest of society very much. No passport or green card is illegal, not just in the US of A. Another example: the illegal drug market is costing the whole world. The terrorists are existing and flourishing from this market.

Please to understand this better at 8:00pm (EST) please watch CNN's; "Narco State: The Poppy Jihad". The people in the middle east have easier assess to heroin than they do to clean drinking water and they are NOT a population of drug addicts. Why is the US spending so much money on the war against drugs while INDIRECTLY supporting the terrorist's??

Who assumes everyone in this section is either immigrants or illegal aliens?? Truth is you don't know WHO posts in this forum. Lots of people are posers. You really don't know if they are male or female, tall, short, fat, skinny, U.S. citizen, Mexican, Australian, Irish, French. You have NO WAY of knowing.

You can't look at their "avatar" or I.D. and know ANYTHING about the person. Other than that all you know is what they tell you, and you have no way of knowing if it's the truth. If you actually believe what people tell you on this forum you are more naive than most on here.

EDIT:

Why the thumbs down (whoever did it)?? Do you actually DISAGREE with me?? So obviously you BELIEVE everything you are told on this forum?? You think you can look at a cartoon avatar and know if it's a male or female really posting behind it?? OKAY THEN!!!! I won't try to dissuade you any further!!! Stay in your "fantasy world"!!!!

I think most people in this section DO assume that any immigrant is illegal. Not everyone feels this way but there are a huge number of bigoted anti-immigration people in here.

Calm down Pobept K! Nobody is attacking you, we all love you, promise.
What she´s saying is that a great population of US are immigrants, (yes, the first colonizers included), a lot of immigrants are legal, so we shouldn´t assume all immigrants are illegal.

Most 'immigrants' living near the southern border are illegal.

pacer

If you are in a country illegally, such as the USA, you ARE an illegal alien. You ARE breaking the law. Comparison to terrorists or drug dealers does NOT CHANGE THIS FACT ONE IOTA.

It's as if you compare a "purse snatcher" to a murderer or rapist. Yes, the crime of murder or rape is more serious than a purse snatcher, but a purse snatcher is STILL a criminal and the comparison does nothing to change this FACT.

Some people are ignorant....and these same people love to assume. I've known many immigrants in my life and I treasure their friendship. I enjoy sharing my culture with them and learning about their as well. That is what this country is supposed to be about. I'm sorry to say that its not always the case though.
