I own a shop, and I think you may have a mechanical problem rather than a key problem. Does it start with the old key, or did you loose the keys? Is your anti-theft light on the dash flashing? If so, then you will have to contact the dealer, and have it re-programed before it will start. If this is not the case, then you need to look at a reason such as a bad ignition control module, and need something else rather than just the key.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

No crank problem could be bad neutral safety switch or anti-theft system problem...does the new key match the old key for the resistance value of the pellet/chip in it? If so, the ignition cylinder where you put the key in could have broken wires which lead to the harness at the bottom of the column. You'll need to have someone with the proper equipment check out the VATS or PASSKEY sytem on your car if it's a problem with the anti-theft system.
CARTUNE had a good suggestion also.

Find out if your old key have a chip in it, if so your new key must be programed. It will crank the motor but will nor start untill you program the chip.

does your car wont crank after using the new duplicated key?

if yes, good chance that your car is equipped with an immobilizer. its a chip embedded in your orig key its the only key that can make your car start. if you made a duplicate you can only insert it and turn it in the ignition but it wont crank up your car. you can only get a copy of your orig key from your car manufacturer

WITH A OHM METER, MEASURE THE RESISTANCE OF THE PELLET ON YOUR KEY, THEN AT THE BASE OF THE STEERING COLUMN YOU WILL FIND A 48 PIN CONNECTOR, AT TERMINAL PINS #E12 AND #E13 USUALLY WHITE WIRES MAYBE BLACK WIRES, INSERT KEY INTO IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER AND MEASURE THE RESISTANCE AT THOSE TERMINALS, SHOULD BE THE SAME VALUE AS YOUR KEY PELLET.CHECK IT IN ALL LOCK CYLINDER POSITIONS AND LOOK FOR ANY VALUE CHANGES.IF IT IS OPEN CIRCUIT OR NOT THE SAME VALUE REPLACE THE LOCK CYLINDER. ANOTHER TRICK YOU CAN TRY IS TO GET A RESISTOR FROM RADIO SHACK WITH SAME VALUE AS YOUR KEY PELLET AND INSERT INTO THE 2 TERMINALS AT THE BASE OF STEERING COLUMN BYPASSING THE PELLET
