Golden and Labradors are both retrievers. They have many traits that are the same but are essentially different. Both love water, will retrieve, are loyal to family and are realatively quiet.
Labradors are considerd to be fun loving and very boisterous. They can become problem matic if not trained at an early age. They are well known for having an appetite for digestable and non digestable items. One needs to limit the amount of food given as they will gain weight. When it comes to food they can be very presistant. Most Labs do not gain an adult attitude until they are around 3 years old. Intelligence rating is 7 on a scale of 1 - 10 with 1 being the highest. Labs as a rule are generally larger than Goldens.
Goldens are fairly unruly as puppies. However one they reach maturity at around two years they remain active and fun loving while developing and exceptionally patient demeanor. Goldens are extremely easy to train as they desire to please their trainers. They excel in obedience and agility. Goldens love children and are very tolerent of them. As they age they remain excellent friends and companions, adore their owners and exhibit what is known as unconditional love. Goldens rate of intelligence is 4 on a scale of 1 - 10 with one being the highest.

I have trained Goldens and Labs. Own a Golden, she amazes me every day with her itelligence. She can close every appliance, door and drawer in the kitchen on command and retrieves the phone for me. She is very wise. Labs are not as easily trained as goldens as they exhibit a greater degree of that fun loving attitude.
Goldens are my pick/

I have a puppy last time and it's also a retriever...to be specific it's a labrador retriever...based on my experiences my LR(labrador retriever) is very kind and sweet..but the only thing I don't like about them is that they have this awful smell that I couldn't understand and I'm not sure if that's really their smell already because even after I'll let her take a bath the smell is still there and even the teacher of my brother agrees with me bec. He also have this kind of dog...but I don't know with the golden retriever because I never try to have one of them....but still it's your own choice...hope I have help you...

Since I have a field bred Choc Lab I prefer Labs. I prefer the field Labs over their show/English types since mine has shorter hair than a "show" Lab. Field Labs tend to be more bold and active also. I do not like the way Goldens are so soft in temperament and belly up alot. Mine doesn't smell but he eats quality food and gets bathed every 2-4 weeks. In any breed or mix there are many great dogs and many poor dogs so one must be careful in choosing their next furever pet. I temperament test all my prospective pups so I get the dog I want. My Lab is a rescue and is a very sound dog mental and physically but there are poor quality dogs out there with epilepsy and bad hips and/or elbows plus eye problems. Goldens are often prone to cancer too.

Labs and Goldens actually have fairly similar personalities. For the most part they're both affectionate and easy to train. But of course that's a pretty broad generalization. Dogs, like humans, vary from individual to individual. Their personality depends more on the training and socialization you put into them than their breed. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Both are pretty similar. They are both retrievers, and both usually love the water.
Goldens have a longer coat, and it can get matted in areas-such as behind the ears, and the thick coat on the hind legs, so its important to keep it brushed AND combed.
Labs have a shorter coat, so they don't get matted, but still need to be brushed regularly to get rid of the undercoat and to help with shedding fur.
Both are active dogs and need a lot of exercise. Labs like to eat and a lot of them get overweight easily so you don't want to overfeed, and give plenty of exercise.

In general they are very similar in size, trainability and temperament. However, golden retrievers need more grooming and labradors are more prone to obesity. Both are equally as likely to have hip dysplasia, so whichever breed you choose, make sure you get one from a reputable breeder and make sure both parents have been hip scored.

An adult puppy or cat/kitten from a shelter would be good for you. Some adult dogs are already used to cats&other dogs, where as you have to start from scratch with a puppy
Why not get your mum&to go down to some shelter or pounds and let your choose from the adults dogs make great pets and alot calmer Make sure you pick 1 that suits your lifestyle.
there are many other breeds but don't buy on looks along or favorite breed alone, buy only one that suits your lifestyle.

They are both beautiful friends. Golden retrievers have a longer coat with more shedding I would think, so there might be more grooming involved.
I prefer the labs . :D
