When someone says they'll get a task completed, and that was 10 months ago, but when I call them on it, they come back with "Patience is a virtue". Only fellow Christians please answer. I think the above saying is to steer away from impulsiveness. I think waiting around 10 months is being patient enough and starting to lean towards being naive. What if someone does not get the task done? How long do we let that continue? Or, was I right in saying that as far as I'm concerned, the person will not complete the task and will only see otherwise if they actually complete it one day? Why should I continue to expect that they will complete the task if over the past 10 months they haven't? The task is getting a quilt to someone. The quilt has been complete and in their posession now for 10 months.

I have asked her only 4 times in the past 10 months. Everytime, it the same thing, "Patience is a virtue." The last time I asked was about 3 months ago. Today I asked and now several of the other members of the fan club are angry with me. I guess that is what bothers me. They say I'm impatient, but 10 months to mail a quilt seems a bit outrageous to me. The quilt was already made and then mailed to her just cause she said she could get it to the celebrity. I like David's answer. But, since she only seems to give excuses, I guess I need to let this go and be ok with the other members being pissed at me for calling her out on her unproductiveness. My calling her out, was saying, "Matthew, we have a quilt for you. Please contact, "her name", so that you can get it."

That's all I said. Before that it was, "Any idea when it will be delivered?" I don't think I've been unreasonable. Thanks for your input. I agree with the accountability thing too.

Patience is a fruit of the Spirit. We cannot grow it or build it, but only submit to it. It is certainly not an excuse to for procrastination. Depending on the specific circumstance and the task set, 10 months would seem an excessive wait. Time for a bit of accountability...

As to why the question is being asked of Christians: likely has to do with wanting advice based on Biblical values rather than worldly and cultural norms or expectations. Askers can also request answers from other groups based on gender, education, marital status, etc.

Length of time on a project is no guarantor of quality. Patience is indeed a virtue, but without motivating her to complete the project on time and well, the individual will just keep procrastinating. Be firm, but understanding. Human beings like the path of least Resistance, and as such, just make it slightly less awkward to finish than to keep procrastinating.

Christians only

PLEASSSSSSE!

Christianity is a FEAR based religion used to control the masses!!
Because fear is the most productive tool these mind control cults have to win over and keep followers.
Source(s):
Remember, "god" is nothing more than a nonsense word created by man to explain away all of the things we can't yet understand.

Religion is a disease of the mind, born of fear, which has done nothing but bring untold misery down upon the human race.
If you can't get someone to convert willingly through preaching, fear is the next best tool.

Christianity for instance is based on two principles:

1. If you believe, you will be rewarded with the prospect of an eternity in Heaven when you die.

2. If you don't believe, you will be rewarded with the prospect of an eternity in Hell when you die.

For Christians:

God is all-loving, all-wise and all-merciful, so long as you submit to becoming a slave - salivating and singing heaps of praises on him for all eternity.

Much like an Earthly dictator who rules his subjects under rule of tyranny - submit or suffer.
Two methods in which religion spreads

1)Violence
2)Child Indoctrination

Honesty is also a virtue my dear.

Go to the person and tell them you are disappointed that it has taken so long for them to do what was expected and if they are still unwilling to comply. Take the quilt back and pass it on yourself.

Yes. That is the length of time it was done. Be patient to wait to be done perfectly.

Patience is the ability to bear trials without grumbling.

Patience is an extremely important and often overlooked Christian attribute.

PART 1 - Patience of the Godhead.

a.) God the Father is the author of patience:

"For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: " - Romans 15:4,5.

b.) The LORD Jesus Christ is the ultimate example of patience:

"Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us." - 2 Thessalonians 3:1-6.

c.) The Holy Spirit is the source of Patience:

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith," - Galatians 5:22.

PART 2: Patience defined or described as:
a.) Rewarded:

"To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life;" - Romans 2:7.

b.) Endured with joy:

"Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; " - Colossians 1:11.

PART 3: Attributes that produce patience:
a.) a good heart:

"But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience." - Luke 8:15.

b.) tribulation:

"And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope:" - Romans 5:3,4.

c.) testing of faith:

"Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing." - James 1:3,4.

d.) hope:

"But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it." - Romans 8:25.

e.) the Holy Bible:

"For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: " - Romans 15:4,5.

PART 4: Why Patience is necessary; the grace in patience:
a.) times of crisis:

"For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake. But there shall not an hair of your head perish. In your patience possess ye your souls." - Luke 21:15-19.

b.) Dealing with an assembly

"Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds." - 2 Corinthians 12:12.

c.) opposing evil:

"I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted." - Revelation 2:2,3.

d.) soundness of faith:

"That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience." - Titus 2:2.

e.) waiting for Christ's return:

"Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts; for the coming of the LORD draweth nigh." - James 5:7,8.

PART 5: God's ways of manifesting patience:
a.) Description of His nature:

"And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth," - Exodus 34:6.

b.) delay in executing wrath:

"What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted with destruction:" - Romans 9:22.

c.) Dealing with sinful men:

"Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; knowing not that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?" - Romans 2:4.

d.) Desire for man's salvation:

"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;" - 2 Peter 3:9-15.

PART 6: patience as a Christian grace:
a.) Exemplified by the prophets:

"Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience." - James 5:10.

b.) manifested by Old Testament saints:

"That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises."- Hebrews 6:12.

c.) Produced by the Holy Spirit:

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith," - Galatians 5:22.

d.) Witnessed in Paul's life:

"But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned,"- 2 Corinthians 6:4-6.

e.) Taught as a virtue:

"I therefore, the prisoner of the LORD, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called. With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forebearing one another in love;"- Ephesians 4:1,2.

f.) given power for:

"Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; " - Colossians 1:11.

g.) set for imitation:

"But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,"- 2 Timothy 3:10.

h.) needed by Christian witnesses:

"Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine."- 2 Timothy 4:2.
