My grandmother is looking after her friends house and cat, and I go round every now and then to keep her company but the cat doesn't like us. Whenever We go near her she runs away and seems quite scared. How do I stop the cat being scared of us?

Stop chasing her.
Best thing to do is sit quietly and wait for her to come out.
Roll around on the sofa and carpet too. She'll get used to your smell.

Bribe her with food. Sometimes works with cats.

Think about how big you are in relation to the size of the cat. Then you go after her and she's scared because she doesn't know you. The only way you can stop her from being scared is to just sit down on the floor and talk to her. She may come to you and she may not. Talking to her may calm her enough so she'll come to you. It doesn't matter what you say. You could read a book out loud, doesn't matter.

If you have the time, sit down somewhere and just wait patiently for the cat. Read or watch TV - do something quiet. If the cat really wants company, it will eventually come out. Don't try to force it, maybe it's not sociable.

Start small steps. Give the cat some treats and then go from there.

With lots of patience. Leave the food there and walk away. It'll come back to eat. Hopefully you can walk less and less further away gradually and it'll eat its food with you standing nearby. Then when it realises you mean no harm, try holding out treats or leaving them near you to make it come nearer each time.

my nan also has a rescue cat who doesn't like people there's not much you can do but let her get used to you and show her you won't hurt her also it's an actual fact that cats are drawn to people who don't like them so maybe if you stay out the way she might come to you
