For example, Homeland Security (Y!A Member) wrote in response to one of my questions:

"Do atheists? And do they also like burning forever? That's not a threat. That's a promise of God.

Rev 21:8 But the fearful, **and unbelieving**, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death

Read it and weep sweetie"

It doesn't really sound like he regrets the loss of my soul to the lake of fire, does it? It almost sounds like, "Ha, well YOU'RE going to Hell and I'M not. Hope you like your fire, sweetie!" Reading it, I can actually imagine HIM poking me with a pitch fork while I roast in magma, and dancing around laughing with little devil horns.

Definitely not how you'd imagine a good Christian would WANT to be seen, right? So what's the deal, Christians? Do you love us or are you happy that we're going to burn?

See, here's the problem. Either you believe in God (and therefore hell), and Christians telling you you'll burn in hell will be scary, but then you have to be one of the other things there. OR, you don't believe in God (and therefore hell). and Christians telling you that wont mean anything.

It's an empty useless threat, that some Christians use to try to get you to believe as they do, because they are too SCARED to believe by themselves, and they don't want to be alone if they're wrong.

I believe in God, and if I have to classify my religion, it would be Christian. However, I don't believe in the idea of organized religion, and find a lot of the bible difficult to swallow. I don't think there's any point at all in trying to scare people to God, or even nagging at them to believe. Either they do or they don't. The best thing to do is to hold firm to your own beliefs, and answer questions IF THEY ARE ASKED. To give honest, unbiased answers to people. That's all they need, let them choose for themselves.

That guy, who you've quoted here, is NOT a Christian in the true sense of the word. He sounds fearful, and i think it's abominable that he'd behave like that. In fact, it's nearly as though he's assisting in your soul's murder. He's idolizing himself over you, and he's a liar. The promise of God is that all who chose to follow him shall live in Heaven for all eternity. or is it just the 144 000 descendants of the tribes... or is it that everyone goes to purgatory til the end of days, and then once the final battle has been won, they'll go to heaven.... I don't know, so many contradicting things in the bible (A book written by man, and not God, it therefore is not a promise of God). It all depends on how you interpret it.

That guy interpreted it like an a s s.

To Jesus M: 1. Not very Christian of you to take the Lord's name in vain.
2. If you're not choosing to not kill a baby, does that mean that obviously you're intent on killing a baby. ? Not choosing one way does not automatically default you to having CHOSEN the other way.

I find Homeland Security's answer to be an unloving response. Of course, I did not read the original question either. There are all kinds of people. One can profess faith in Christ and still be mean unfortunately. Christianity calls believers to love, but that is not always the response you will receive. Christians have free will for good or for evil because without choice we would all just be the brainwashed automatons I frequently see us characterized as on these boards.

It would seem that way wouldn't it.I've noticed it to, but I can't help but wonder if perhaps they will be judged in the end since their god says it is not their place to judge and that in the end only he can judge what happens to the souls of the dead.....however to all of those who speak of this eternal burning...I have some quotes for you....who shall be punished with everlasting destruction” (2 Thess. 1:9). They will die a “second death” (Rev. 21:8) and thus be “twice dead” (Jude v. 12). This is actually talking about the spiritual death, meaning there is no eternal torment only that we cease to live in eternal peace. We are completely destroyed....basically what most atheists believe anyways.I think perhaps the people who say stuff like this have not really studied their own religion.

If you have an issue with what ONE person said, then take it up with him. I still love all atheists and don't want them to burn in hell even if some think I'm stupid and un-educated for believing in God over evolution, even though some mock me for reading the Bible etc. BTW did you see the response of Anna R, below? People say stuff they shouldn't all the time.

Sadly, some so-called and self-professed "Christians" take a mistaken and theologically unsound pleasure in the destruction of a sinner.

I guess they missed the parable of the 99 sheep safely in the fold, and how the shepherd went looking for the lost one.

hay, look firstly most of the people that replied dont know anything about true Christianity and i can see u yourself trying to make an issue of it . As Christians the belief is that an atheist is simply misguided, not that they will 100% go to hell. NO ONE can make that choice exept god!

Nope, the Bible tells us that, "God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance"

Also, "for God so loved the WORLD (the whole thing) that he sent his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have ever lasting life."

No real Christian would be happy about the result of a person going to Hell. Our sole point of existence is to prevent it.

Again, if any so called Christian has ever made you feel this way, I ask your forgiveness on behalf of them. Not that they deserve it but so you don't judge us all.

Some Christians aren't very Christian. The glee with which they spout the eternal damnation of everyone who doesn't hold their views, has chilled me to the bone for many years. I have a feeling the other side won't be the picnic they imagine.

As an atheist I think it would not be wise to stereotype religions based on responses seen on R&S. People on both sides of the argument make statements that they would probably not make were it not for the anonymity.
