check engine bay for magic oil eating faries

the oil went somewhere. it cant just vanish.
was the oil there to begin with?
it can still burn oil with minimal smoke. get the compresion checked and do a leak down test. the valve guide seals may also be worn, also worth checking

so you're now using syntheic oil. in my experiance, with synthetic oils being thinner, they will leak out quicker and find new areas to leak from.

Don't use synthetic to expensive. Is check engine light on ? You are likely burning oil.Cat converters can be efficient and there would be no smoke. Try compression check.Look at spark plugs if you are burning oil it may be evident. Start a oil consumption test see how much you burn and how quick. Use a Nissan filter do a oil change with a good grade oil, make sure the level is correct then start checking it every 250 miles. Find out how much you go threw how fast ? 1 quart every couple thousand is not terrible (not great either). These cars usely don't burn oil because of valve guides unfortunately it is usely rings ? Are you going threw coolant ?

You don't need to spray oil out if it is synethic or regular. Most likely the front crank seal is leaking look at the back of the right hand fender for darker spots on the black innerfender liner. Also dark specks on the back right side of the car. Crank seal really gets to leaking at high speeds and drips hit the air and blow back get it fixed soon and replace the oil soaked fan belts too. Look closely at the crank pulley the rubber inside it may be about to come apart.

Too late to use synthetic oils--the tolerances in the motor allow the oil to slide by and burn. It doesn't burn exactly like real oil--but it burns off just the same. A new tight engine will hold synthetic oil--NOT a 1997.
