if we know smoking will kill us, and we keep doing so until we die from it, (if that ends up being the cause) is it suicide?

Well I guess so. However, suicide will not keep you from Heaven. That myth is a tradition of some branches of Christianity and not found in the Bible.

So will obesity & air pollution. I know people who eat very little yet still fat. You can't escape pollution unless you hide out from the world in a cave. Venting your anger can even get you killed. But that doesn't make it suicide. We all make bad choices that harm us either intentionally or accidentally but with most people it's both.

God alone knows the heart so I believe there can even be forgiveness for that. Just those left behind will never know this side of heaven.

Unless you're fairly young, naive or a militant non-smoker I can't imagine why you'd think that.

It's the intent, I think. It is possible to smoke all your life and just comfortably ignore the fact that it might kill you someday. Smoking BECAUSE it might kill you, on the other hand, is indeed suicide, or self-mutilation, or something of the kind.

Eating food slowly kills us. Smoking just does it faster.
