Nothing is wrong with being a vegitarian.
Make sure you get proper amounts of protien via nuts.
Ie... peanuts, cashews.
Also, you may notice some differences in your self because meat is injected with a lot of hormones. (Part of the reason each generation is reaching puberty sooner.)
Some people just aren't able to be vegetarians because they really do need meat. Like my sister, who gets nosebleeds and passes out everytime she tries to become a vegetarian.

Make sure you are still eating everything from all the food groups, just using meat alternatives such as tofu or all the cool new meat-like products out now.

Best of luck!

The choice to become a vegetarian typically has little to do with health regarding diet. You can still get a lot of protein from a vegetarian diet it will be more difficult to do and you'll have to get creative about it to make sure you don't run into any deficiencies.

Ultimately, in my opinion people should respect your choices as they are based on your personal beliefs. I'm sure your mom is concerned about your health, so I suggest doing some research to learn for yourself what to have, and make sure you don't have a nutritional deficiency of any sort.

Here's some food for thought (no pun intended): I was a vegetarian for a while a few years ago until I was forced out of it when joining the military (you pretty much starve if you don't eat meat). Upon reflection, if you think about all the farmland used, all the animals displaced and the harm done to the environment as well as to animals in the synthesis, growth and reaping of crops, then it seems to even out. It's a quandary for sure but it seems like you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. it's a challenge and will require any vegetarian who is that concerned about it to really find out where their food actually comes from, in that it isn't harvested in a way that hurts animals as well.

she's not completely wrong. It's harder for vegetarians to get all the iron and protein they need. I strongly recommend you find an local vegetarian store and get some help. Buy some books. Don't come on here for answers really go educate yourself.

Just to point out a little fact. You know that lady that does the sleep number bed commercials (she also used to do the Ford commercials A LONG time ago and she was the original bionic woman) she is a vegetarian. Would you believe she is in her late 60's????

Just do it right. Go prove your mom wrong and educate yourself. There is nothing wrong being vegetarian but there is when you don't take care of yourself.

You may want to take a nutrition course at the local community college. It may help alot.

Vegetarian diets can be very healthy for you if you know what you're doing. Just like with any diet, you have to include as many different foods as possible. Humans don't need meat to be healthy. You just have to keep in mind that a vegetarian diet should include lots of fruits and vegetables, not just carbs like pasta. Many doctors suggest vegetarian diets to help with weight loss and to lower cholesterol.
I think it's great that you're thinking about where your food comes from. It's also great that your mom is concerned for your health, even if she's wrong about vegetarianism. Maybe what you should do is check out books from the library on the subject and become familiar with her concerns so that you can adress them and present her with facts.
Good luck. :)

Oh puhleeze, there is nothing wrong with being a vegetarian AS LONG as you are getting the proteins you need. Your mom may be a nurse but she is wrong about NEEDING meat. There are other, healthier, ways to get protein into your body.

You need protein, and meat is the best source of it. If you refuse to eat meat, you need to eat a lot of legumes, eggs are good too if you are not vegan. Funny, but most of the vegetarians I know are overweight!
