Did you even bother to READ the article you linked to? Here's the start of the third sentence "This hypothesis never had significant scientific support"
On the other hand, global warming DOES have significant scientific support.
Think harder next time.

Global cooling was just an idea of a few scientists (Hansen was not one of them), with no good data, and no backing from ANY major scientific organization.
It in no way resembles the science of (mostly) man made global warming which has tons of data proving it, and the backing of EVERY major scientific organization in the world.

The "global cooling" scientists actually resemble today's "skeptics" who are also few in number, with no good data and no backing from ANY major scientific organization.
"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know... Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point. You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."
Dr. Jerry Mahlman, NOAA

Contrary to Wikipedia and one of the earlier responders, global cooling did have pretty significant scientific support. This support included scientists from NASA. Again, mankind was claimed to be responsible for global cooling due to aerosols. http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/173/3992/138
Like CO2 and greenhouse gases, the aerosols were given too much credit back in the 1970s. Actually, the swing from global cooling to global warming has more to do with internal climate variability than anything else.
The oceans have a huge impact on the temperature of the atmosphere. The oceans oscillate back and forth from a warm phase to a cool phase. The Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) is a very long term - 30 year long cycle. The North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) is pretty long also, about 20 years long. The El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is just a few years long. In years when all three are in the warm phase (like 1998 and 2006) it can get quite warm.
The news talks about El Nino/La Nina phases quite a bit because everyone can remember them. El Nino is warm and La Nina is cool. But you have to be pretty old to remember when the PDO was in its last cool phase.
Check out the years the PDO was in its warm phase and compare it to the overall surface temp record. It is amazing. The PDO was warm from 1975-2006. It was cool from 1945-1975. It was warm from 1905-1945.
BTW, the PDO just changed to its cool phase. We are in for cooler temperatures for the next 30 years.

The ice age ,sorry ages. All the talk about CO2 and global warming. All the hipe from people who are in the position of getting grants and jobs etc. They fail to mention the planet had many thousand times more co2 in the atmosphere when the dinosaurs were around and the temp was much much warmer. But if you notice pro warmers only go back far enough to support their argument. I dont deny global warming is taking place, but the planet has heated up and cooled down many times before. The views of the crys of "wolf ,wolf"..seem to be the "in thing". Unfortunately I am in the informed minority group.

Yeah, we need to build the roads magnetic, so the cars also have magnet which helps the cars float. That would cool the Global Warming.

the only reason why scientists are worried is because there hasn't been a cooling period for a very long time if you look at climate graphs you will see this also it's still happening even if it's not as fast as people say so we should still do something about it

Yes I remember that we should be under 10 feet of ice right about now. They never even figured in cars, planes, industrial chemicals then.lol No,I don't take it seriously. Now if they want to tell me a climate change is on the way I would listen.Because I do think we are due one,but global warming is so cozy next to climate change and is easier to make people fear.Like we can be in control, silly.I noticed the tiny tiny shift in our orbit from the tsunami got hushed up real quick as would anything that shifted our orbit as that would be a real disaster and truly out of our control.lol.

Even the great Dr. Hansen once proclaimed that global cooling was caused by man and that we are all doomed.
Until he discovered there was more money in so called "global warming"
