I told my college professor about my mental illness, & she pretended to feel sorry for me, & then when I asked her about any exams I missed, due to absences because of my illnesses, she got rude with me. I even have a doctor's excuse & she won't even tell me what tests they took this week. I was sick with anxiety & depression symptoms all week. She said she doesn't remember what tests she gave, & she's the professor. How could she forget? & we're not on point with the syllabus. & she tried to make it like I was being lazy & irresponsible. Yesterday I was so depressed & stressed out that I attempted suicide & tried to drown myself, & my friend jumped in the bath tub & tried to save me. So when the professor told me what she told me, I felt even worse. I had an anxiety attack last week & the professor "pretended" to console me & sympathize. I'm really mentally hurting to the point where it's interfering with my daily life.

I am have anxiety disorder, too, so I know what you're going through. And I am genuinely sorry.

You teacher sounds like an ignorant b****. Most colleges, though, have some type of office for people with disabilities. Talk to them, show them the doctor's note, and they should be able to help you out.

Also, if I were you, I would report the the teacher. "Punishing" you for having a mental illness is discrimination and it's illegal.
The school should be notified so she doesn't do this to someone else.

Best of luck!

Im sorry that you have a professor that is lacking in empathy for others it is apparent in lots of people I know for whatever reasons there are many... the most common I find is that for most life is a constant struggle to balance the ups with downs and for some listening to others downs is not a good place to be so they avoid even connecting. Its so obvious on their faces to those in pain that the connection is missing. I dont think that is the actual question you want answering though is it "why do people....." It sounds like reading in between the lines Honey is "why are people not noticing I need help" and to me that one is most obvious. Unless you tell them and the ones that can actually do something then you might not be recognised people cannot mind read were you are and most will not recognise were you are by the outward signs be honest go seek help you do not have to be alone . Take Care

ahhh welcome to the mental health field. And welcome to Life. People for the rest of your life will pretend to know what you are feeling, but they don't get it, because they haven't experienced it. Unless a person KNOWS what you are feeling and have gone thru it they will give you their freudian/jung concepts. Welcome to higher learning,
They are trained to "understand" hmm how do you become trained to put a label on someone?
I'm sorry for what you are going thru. I have been there. My best advice is to do what YOU need to do for yourself and forget everyone else.
Anxiety attacks are horrible, feel like you are dying, and yet everyone puts you off because it's not a "real medical emergency?"
Well in the middle of one don't you feel like you are dying and you need help? This is where our system fails us. And I'm sorry for those that think elsewise.

well do you think it would have been better if she showed no emotion at all? (no offense)

it is something we (humans) do in our nature (way of being)
